I like to hike in the woods and in the mountains. When hiking in new and foreign places, even with a map, there is always the chance of getting lost. There is the confusion of trying to figure out where I had gone wrong, and how to get back on the right trail again.
Painting is much like that. Each new canvas or sheet of watercolor paper is a new adventure. The way is never easy or clear and I often get lost. But figuring out how to get to where I want to go seems to take the same amount of concentration and work as a good hike does. Getting lost isn’t so bad when a new way is discovered, a new road, or a new path to a new end.
Whether on a hike or sitting with my paints, each is an adventure and getting lost is half the fun.
