Gun-Marie Nalsen

Fiber Artist

My primary areas of interest are: work with colors in my studio, be with the family, chase art around town.

About Me: I was born in Sweden and grew up in Venezuela. I learned to weave in Sweden in the early 80’s, and went back to Venezuela and taught weaving and tapestry to children. I also taught in an Art School in Caracas.  In 2008 I moved definitely to USA.  Cincinnati, OH was the place, there I became a member of the Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati, where I met many artists.  Teresa Nieberding, introduced me to rug hooking, punch needle and needle felting, I continued with the weaving, and tapestry in a smaller scale, as the looms are too big to move around. We opened a Studio in the Loveland Art Studios on Main, in Loveland, OH. There we spent time with our hooker friends every Wednesday from 10 to 4pm.  We discussed our projects, met challenges, planned shows and enjoyed the hooking life! In 2016 we moved to Doylestown, PA. Here I have a small studio at home, where I work on my projects.  I belong to the Handweavers of Bucks County and to the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County.

As a fiber artist I love to use colors in different kinds of materials. Because of my tropical background, the colors are always bolder.  I have been weaving for many years, but now I love to do rug hooking and punch needle, in particular mixing different kinds of materials. The results are always very rewarding. Doing tapestry is very relaxing for the soul. Nowadays I do a lot of needle felted pieces, love to make seashores especially… I think I really miss them!                                                                                                                                            Over the years I have participated in various shows and exhibitions in Venezuela, Cincinnati, OH, Bellevue, KY and Doylestown, PA
