As a fine artist I believe that art is more than representations of an image. In completing Wishes & Privations / Forbidden Places for the R.E.D exhibition, I endeavored to tell a story utilizing carefully selected objects, folklore, and literature. I chose to do this diptych for the R.E.D. exhibition as I felt a sensitivity towards Henry Mercer’s respect for folklore and storytelling, as well as its importance in our shared humanity. I felt an affinity with Henry Mercer in collecting the objects utilized in this diptych, preserving them for view, and piecing them together to tell a story. There was almost a sacredness about carefully preserving this story in these two small, framed spaces.
