For the R.E.D exhibit, I relate Henry Mercer with strong building materials and structure. This mill is so strong it has survived many floods throughout its long life. I painted it on a warm April day in one plein-air sitting. After a few hours the light changes so I must be sure I have it captured in 2 to 3 hours, so I work quickly to capture the light and shadows. The sky was full of puffy clouds passing by this day so these were captured rather quickly.
