Like Henry Mercer, I have a passion for nature. I feel joy and peace as I experience the beauty of being outdoors, and I express these feelings as I use soft pastels to create paintings of land, water, plants, and sky. Many of my paintings portray places that are special to me, such as parks and open spaces in my local suburban environment that I visit frequently, or the beach and other different landscapes I experience during trips away. Other artworks, like “Summer Treescape,” are less about the landscape of a specific location and more about a general feeling: experiencing the heat of a summer day, looking up at treetops, seeing so many bright green leaves against a vivid blue sky.
