I ordered some vintage jewelry components off Etsy and when they arrived, I found them to be too big for what I had envisioned using them for. While I was thinking I was arranging them on a flat surface to inspire something new because I didn’t want to go through the return process. I started adding seashells to the arrangements and two birds emerged side by side. I decided I wanted to make decorative tiles out of them and later mounted each on wood panels and further embellished them with hand-stamped brass plates that say “A NEW DAY” & “A NEW WAY” inspired by the Mary Oliver poem “Why I Wake Early”.
