Painted en plein air at Freeman Hall in October, I was drawn to the stonework and the cool pale turquoise of the balustrades against the warmth of the surrounding flora. The alizarin crimson and subtle oranges of the mums, the spray of the grass fronds against all, excited my painters’ eye!
