Bill is a landscape painter and filmmaker.
For me, to paint is to pay attention to what I see, not to theories or ideologies or even prior experience.
For me, to pay attention is to become aware, so that awareness can lead to understanding and understanding to insight and insight to truth and truth, hopefully, to beauty.
Nature is my only master.
A teacher I loved once told me, "Look twice, paint once." I double that.
For me to paint, except when I rage or despair, is to meditate, to allow the energy and movement of light and shade to occupy my entire attention.
But nature has no patience for me. Light moves on inexorably, its movement my joy or pain, and always, all the inspiration I ever need.
