Her German-language collaborations with Georg Amsel are included in this year’s Best Literary Translations anthology\, and her nonfiction essays and poetry-dance works with Companyia Lake Angela advocate for the value of schizophrenia spectrum creativity. Lake is the 2024 Bucks County Poet Laureate \nLuray Gross\, a storyteller as well as a Bucks County Poet Laureate\, has published five collections of poetry\, most recently With This Body\, Ragged Sky Press. Named a Distinguished Teaching Artist by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts\, she has worked with thousands of students ranging in age from three to 83.L \nVasiliki Katsarou is the author of three poetry collections\, Memento Tsunami\, Three Sea Stones\, and most recently\, The Second Home (Finishing Line Press). Her award-winning 35mm short film Fruitlands 1843 was screened at the Newtown Theatre in Bucks County in 2024. She has been a Teaching Artist at Hunterdon Art Museum\, and collaborated with many local arts organizations including the Dodge Poetry Festival\, Hopewell Theater\, ArtYard\, and Princeton Humanities Council. \nMelissa D. Sullivan is a fiction writer\, journalist\, editor and attorney. Her fiction can be found in Dappled Things\, The Coil Magazine and elsewhere\, and her flash historical fiction “Dear Jacqueline” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her essays on arts and culture have appeared in Rivertowns Magazine\, Suburban Life and Hippocampus Magazine. In 2023\, Melissa was proud to take on the role of publisher of Neshaminy: The Bucks County Historical and Literary Magazine. \n  \nLiterary Arts Salons are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:A&C First Thursdays Salon \nAugust 1\, 7-8:30pm \nFreeman Hall |181 East Court Street | Doylestown PA \nFive fantastic writers read selections from their work followed by a relaxed discussion and light refreshments in Freeman Hall. \n Julie Cooper-Fratrik is a former Bucks County Poet Laureate with her MFA from Goddard/VT College\, winner of an Achievement Grant in Poetry from Leeway Foundation in Philadelphia\, and former Creative Fellow at the Psychiatric Center of Philadelphia\, Julie is currently working on a manuscript of shorter contemplative poems with an unidentified speaker or speakers. \n Jennifer Fritch is a writer\, marketing strategist\, professor and former stand-up comedienne.  Her work has appeared in Flash Fiction Magazine\, US1 Worksheets\, Medicine and Meaning and Bucks County-Inspired Poems\, Prose and Pictures.  She is the 2023 Bucks County Short Fiction Contest winner. Jennifer holds a BA in psychology from University of Michigan\, an MBA in marketing from Rutgers and is pursuing a master’s in creative writing and literature at Harvard.                   \n Award-winning screenwriter Anna Maria Manalo authors mémoires\, anthologies and novels involving first-person accounts of hauntings in remote and historic sites all over the globe. Her cinematic storytelling style has placed her on the Amazon bestseller list for her previous release\, Haunted Heirlooms.  Her books are all rated from 4.3 to 5.0.  \n Julie Standig’s poetry has recently appeared in Schuylkill Journal Review\, US1 Poets/Del Val\, Gyroscope Review and Crone editions\, New Verse News\,as well as many others. DESCRIPTION:First Thursdays Salon Night \nMarch 7 \n7-8:30 pm Freeman Hall\, 181 East Court Street\, Doylestown\, PA \nFive area writers read selections from their works of fiction\, poetry\, and nonfiction followed by a relaxed discussion and light refreshments in Freeman Hall. \n  \nMEET THE WRITERS: \nLCW Allingham is a Philadelphia area author\, artist\, and editor. Her short fiction has appeared in numerous anthologies and her piece\, “Cellar Door” won second place in the 2023 Bucks County Short Fiction contest. She is the co-founder and executive editor of the indie press\, Speculation Publications. Her horror novella Muse is coming out in April\, 2024\, and her debut historical novel\, Lady\, will both be out in September\, 2024. \nBill Hemmig’s first short story collection\, Americana: Stories was recently published by Read Furiously\, which also published his novella\, Brethren Hollow\, and two of his stories in its Life in the Garden State anthologies. He has had stories published in The Madison Review\, Philadelphia Stories\, Pink Disco\, BarBar\, and Children\, Churches and Daddies(cc&d)\, and he is a three-time finalist in the New Millennium Writing Awards. \nVasiliki Katsarou is a Greek and American poet\, editor\, independent curator\, and sometime filmmaker. She is the author of three poetry collections\, Memento Tsunami\, Three Sea Stones\, and the just published The Second Home. Her award-winning 35mm short film Fruitlands 1843 was screened at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and will be re-released in 2024.. Her new publishing venture is Solitude Hill Press. \nKevin Taylor is a poet\, songwriter\, and board game designer. he was 2nd runner up for the 2023 bucks county poet laureate contest\, has an upcoming full-length album\, and recently won #1 new solo designer in a contest on the largest board game site in the world. he lives in bucks county with a few stink bugs that overwinter with him. \nLinda C. Wisniewski is a former librarian and journalist living in Doylestown\, PA. She teaches memoir workshops and volunteers as a docent for Pearl S. Buck International. Linda’s work has been published in anthologies and literary magazines including The Sun\, Manifest Station\, The Sunlight Press and Hippocampus. She is the author of Off Kilter\, a memoir and Where the Stork Flies\, a time travel novel. \n  \nFirst Thursdays Salon Nights are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. \nThe honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and “The Lenel Education Fund.”

Free to attend\, parking is available on site. \nMEET THE WRITERS:  \nJulie Cooper-Fratrik is a former Bucks County Poet Laureate with her MFA from Goddard/VT College\, winner of an Achievement Grant in Poetry from Leeway Foundation in Philadelphia\, and former Creative Fellow at the Psychiatric Center of Philadelphia. Julie is currently working on a manuscript of shorter contemplative poems with an unidentified speaker or speakers. \nDante del Vecchio is a poet\, artist\, and musician from Bucks County\, PA.  Born in a car on the Garden State Parkway\, and originally from Long Beach Island\, NJ\, Dante believes his early childhood (in a then unspoiled and undeveloped environment) led to a lifelong love of beauty and nature. Besides performing solo\, Dante belongs to the band\, Great Blue Buddha. He writes in a variety of styles and attributes his experience as a poet to a smooth transition to songwriting.   \nJennifer Nelson is a writer and teacher living in Bucks County. Last fall\, her book Teaching with Heart: Lessons Learned in a Classroom was published. She runs Your Stories\, a writing services company. She studied journalism at Columbia University and creative writing at Vermont College of Fine Arts. She’s a graduate of the University of California\, Berkeley.   \nDavid R. Roth’s debut novel\, The Femme Fatale Hypothesis\, was released by Regal House Publishing in November 2021. It was an INDIE Book of the Year finalist and won International Book Awards’ Best Literary Fiction. Driftwood Press has twice selected his stories as quarter-finalists in their Adrift Short Story Contest. Athe the event he will be reading from his second novel set in the fictional Pennsylvania river town of Marrsville\, The Gift of Death.   \nTara Tamburello is the current Poet Laureate of Bucks County and a past winner of the Bucks County Short Fiction Contest. Her work has been published in many journals\, including the Schuylkill Valley Journal\, Dillydown Review\, and Tiny Seed Journal. Her short story “Turn\, Turn” won the 2020 Pennwriters Competition. She also authored the children’s books The Village of Basketeers and Oscar and the Mooncats (Houghton Mifflin.) She lives and works on Goblin Farm in Applebachsville\, Pa. \nLiterary Arts Salons are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. Space is limited and parking is free!\nFor reservations\, email: programs@bucksarts.org.                                                    \nMEET THE ARTISTS: \nCheryl Bomba became involved with photography as a special education teacher when she bought one of the first digital cameras to take portraits of her students with autism. Her interests are capturing small moments in nature\, architecture\, and sculpture and helping other photographers achieve their artistic visions through iPhonography classes.  \nJoseph Chelius was the 2000 Bucks County poet laureate\, and in 2017 was the first place winner of the inaugural Bucks County Short Story competition.  Joe’s work has appeared in Cider Press Review\, Commonweal\, Poet Lore\, Poetry East\, Rattle\, and other journals.  He has published two full-length collections of poems with WordTech Communications: The Art of Acquiescence (2014) and Crossing State Lines (2020). \nLuray Gross\, a storyteller and teaching artist as well as a poet\, is the author of four collections of poetry\, most recently Lift\, published by Ragged Sky Press.  She grew up on a dairy farm in Bucks Co. in a household rich in books and music.  Reading poetry helped her survive adolescence\, and poetry has helped keep her sane ever since.  \nSean Hanrahan (he/him/his) is a gay Philadelphia poet hailing from Dale City\, Virginia. He is the author of Hardened Eyes on the Scan\, Safer Behind Popcorn\, and Gay Cake. He has taught classes on chapbook creation and ekphrastic poetry and has hosted various poetry events\, including a bimonthly series for Moonstone. \nGun-Marie Nalsen writes\, “I am a long time weaver and fiber artist. Needle felting\, punch needle\, tapestry and rug hooking\, have been my most used media until about a year ago when I started experimenting with watercolors. To my delight I discovered that using watercolors is very similar to needle felting with wool. It has the same process of layering translucent colors\, it feels playful and spontaneous.” \nFrancisco Silva writes\, “I am a painter who works mainly in oils. My home studio is located in the small town of Frenchtown\, New Jersey\, on the Delaware River. In my artwork\, I examine different themes preferring to draw from my personal experiences and my reaction to those experiences.” \nWendy Fulton Steginsky has authored three books of poetry. She attributes her love for the art form to growing up on the shores of Bermuda where the sea’s rhythms seeped into her bones and stayed. Her book\, “Let This Be Enough” (Kelsay Books\, 2016) won Honorable Mention in Bermuda’s 2018 Literary Awards. \n\nLiterary Arts Salons are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. Her new book of poetry\, Bread and Fumes\, explores the cultural influences of her father’s Ukrainian heritage\, and the challenges of being the daughter of a Nazi labor camp survivor. Her poetry appears in Painted Bride Quarterly\, Tiny Seed Journal\, Schuylkill Valley Journal\, Red Wolf Press\, and tiny wren lit. Lynn lives with her husband in Bucks County\, Pennsylvania. \nElizabeth Luciano grew up on the Jersey Shore and earned a BA and an MFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After spending some time working as a journalist and public relations specialist\, she changed careers and became an educator. She has worked at Bucks County Community College since 2004\, teaching all levels of composition. She is also the director of the Bucks County Short Fiction contests. DESCRIPTION:Our 2023 First Thursday series opens with a Literary Art Salon on January 5\, 2023 at 7 pm at Freeman Hall 181 East Court Street\, Doylestown. \nRobbin Farr\, Ethel Rackin\, and Roy Smith will read selections from their work followed by a Q & A session and light refreshments in the parlor at Freeman Hall. Books will be available for sale.   \nSeating is limited and free parking is available. \nReservations are required at info@bucksarts.org. \nMEET THE ARTISTS: \nRobbin Farr\, poet and essayist\, lives and writes in Doylestown\, where she lives with her patient husband and their cat\, Charlie who is prone to snort at the occasional poetic line. She is a founder and co-editor of River Heron Review\, an online poetry journal\, publishing and supporting poets from across the globe. When not writing poetry or editing\, you will find Robbin volunteering for the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. Her poetry has been published in various journals\, including Panoply\, Sky Island\, Atlanta Review\, 2River View and others. Her book\, Become Echo (Atmosphere Press)\, is launching next month. Her new teaching text is Crafting Poems and Stories: A Guide to Creative Writing (Broadview Press\, 2022). Her writing has appeared in the American Poetry Review\, Colorado Review\, Kenyon Review\, New England Review\, Poetry Daily\, Verse Daily\, Volt\, and other journals. A MacDowell fellow\, she is a professor of English at Bucks County Community College\, where she directs the Bucks County Poet Laureate Program and the Wordsmiths Reading Series. \nRoy W. Smith runs a monthly poetry round table gathering at Prallsville Mills Stockton New Jersey and has been a long time organizer and MC of multiple poetry events in Bucks county and New Jersey. He believes strongly that poetry should be nurtured in a creative\, friendly space.  Roy has been published in River Heron Review\, Philadelphia stories\, Apiary\, Karla’s thirteen New Hope Poets and the Bucks County Herald and also Radius magazine as well as Phantom Billstickers cafe reader out of New Zealand among others.  \nThe honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and the Lenel Education Fund.

Stone Hunting in Transylvania\, Woman With A Wandering Eye\, How the Moose Got To Be\, Verda’s House\, and Red Mud are among Goodrich’s books of poems. Her poetry has been translated into Chinese\, Finnish\, French\, Lithuanian\, Slovenian\, and Romanian. .  The River Place\, a volume in collaboration with Romanian poet Ioan Hadarig will be published August\, 2022 \nLynn Miller is Professor Emeritus of Political Science\, Temple University. He is the author of a number of books and articles on world politics. Books include Organizing Mankind and Global Order: Values and Power in International Politics. His 2010 novel is Crossing the Line. He is the co-author (with Lloyd Jensen) of Global Challenge\, (with Annette H. Emgarth) of French Philadelphia\, (with James McClelland) of City in a Park\, and (with Therese Dolan) of Salut! France Meets Philadelphia: The French Presence in Philadelphia’s History\, Culture\, and Art\, which was published by Temple University Press in November\, 2020. His memoir\, Postcards from Delphi\, is now available from the author. \nA lifetime New Yorker\, Julie Standig now writes with two amazing poetry groups\, Marie Kane’s KT and the Stalwart Poets. She has been published in Alehouse Press\, Sadie Girl Press\, After Happy Hour Review\, Schuylkill Journal Review\, US1 Poets/Del Val\, Gyroscope Review as well as online journals. Her first chapbook\, Memsahib Memoir was released by Plan B Press in 2017 and an upcoming collection\, The Forsaken Little Black Book will be released Fall 2022 by Kelsay Books. DESCRIPTION:Doors are open in Doylestown for another fantastic art exhibition and sale\, coupled with an opportunity to meet local writers and illustrators. \nJoin the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County on October 1 and 2 from noon to 4pm for the closing of the Fall Salon Member Show at Freeman Hall on East Court Street in Doylestown. Stop in to see a stunning exhibition featuring the work of over 125 regional artists – 250 paintings\, drawings\, prints\, photographs\, mixed media works\, sculptures\, handmade books\, ceramics\, jewelry\, and more. She performs with interactive poetry troupe No River Twice and with musical combo The Starry Eyes. She is the author of Let X=X and many small\, hand-made chapbooks. Current obsessions include dream life\, embodied poetics\, ephemeral art\, and the power of persistent\, incremental change. \nBill Wunder’s poem\, “’Looking Through Old Family Photographs was chosen as a co-winner for First Prize in the 2022 Allen Ginsberg Poetry Awards. He is a poet\, editor and the author of four volumes of poetry. Bill’s book\, Hand’s Turning the Earth was a national finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. He is a two-time Pushcart Nominee\, and a former Poet Laureate of Bucks County\, Pa. His newest volume of Poetry is Welcome to Paradise\, New and Selected Poems. Bill’s poems are widely published\, and recently\, some of his work became a permanent part of a Living Anthology on War Memories published in Revue LISA (Le Mans\, France). A Vietnam veteran\, Bill served as Poetry Editor of The Schuylkill Valley Journal (Philadelphia\, Pa.) for ten years.

By day he is Dean of Learning Resources and Online Learning at Bucks County Community College. \nJennifer Nelson runs Your Stories\, a memoir writing company in Bucks County\, and teaches memoir writing at Delaware Valley University and Bucks County Community College. For more than 15 years\, Jennifer taught French in public and private high schools and stories about the challenges and joys of working with adolescents form the basis of Waiting for the Bell\, forthcoming in 2023. Jennifer has worked as a journalist for Bloomberg\, McGraw-Hill\, and the Home News. \nLynn Levin received the 2021 Bucks County Short Fiction Prize for her story “Tell Us about Your Experience.”  A poet\, writer\, translator\, and teacher\, she is also the 1999 Bucks County Poet Laureate. Levin’s short stories have appeared in The Satirist\, The Saturday Evening Post\, Cleaver\, Amarillo Bay\, and The Broadkill Review. Her most recent poetry collection\, The Minor Virtues was named one of Spring 2020’s best books by The Philadelphia Inquirer. She teaches at Drexel University. He has published in numerous journals and his poetry was featured on National Public Radio\, Morning Edition\, upon his return from Afghanistan in 2007. He is the author of “Go Deep\,” “Base Camp\,” and “American Carnage\, An Officer’s Duty to Warn.” His work reflects his commitment to social justice.
