SUMMARY:FILM SCREENING: Walking While Black: L.O.V.E. is the Answer
DESCRIPTION:Pearl S. Buck International\, The Peace Center\, and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office invite you to join us for an in-person screening and discussion of the film Walking While Black: L.O.V.E. is the Answer. This event will be Thursday\, May 5\, 2022 from 6-8:30 pm at Pearl S. Buck International\, 520 Dublin Road\, Perkasie\, PA 18944. \n As minority communities face the daily stranglehold of racial profiling\, and police officers face relentless scrutiny by an anxious public\, tensions mount as lines are being drawn in the sand. This conflict can only be broken by finding common ground with each other. WALKING WHILE BLACK: L.O.V.E. Is The Answer presents proven action steps to bridge the painful gap between peace officers and the communities they serve. L.O.V.E. is an acronym best described in this pledge: I pledge to LEARN about the people in my community\, to unconditionally OPEN my heart to their needs as if they were all immediate family members\, to VOLUNTEER to be part of the solution in their life during both good and challenging times\, and to EMPOWER everyone I meet to do the same as if our lives depended on each other. Featuring interviews with peace officers\, faith leaders\, educators\, activists and others\, the film offers an inspiring blueprint to end racial profiling\, promote racial equity\, and heal our communities. \n Due to scenes of graphic violence\, this film is not appropriate for children. This event is free to attend and open to the public. Pre-registration is required and can be done on The Peace Center website at https://www.thepeacecenter.org/upcoming-events/wwb-love_psb/. \n Pearl S. Buck International® is a member of the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. They provide opportunities to explore and appreciate other cultures\, build better lives for children around the globe and promote the legacy of their founder by preserving and interpreting her National Historic Landmark Home.

SUMMARY:Dangerous Women | Pearl S. Buck Virtual Exhibit for Women’s History Month
DESCRIPTION:Pearl S. Buck International Launches New Virtual Exhibit for Women’s History MonthDangerous Women \n In honor of Women’s History Month\, Pearl S. Buck International has launched a new virtual exhibit on its website\, Dangerous Women. \nPearl S. Buck was a Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning author\, avid humanitarian\, and ardent social justice activist. Buck used her writing and celebrity to shine a light on many issues facing society\, including women’s rights\, racial injustice\, and the plight of marginalized children living in poverty around the world. \n Curated by Pearl S. Buck International Historic House Director and Curator VJ Kopacki\, Dangerous Women celebrates just a few of the women who stepped out of traditional female roles and expectations and stepped up as visionaries and leaders. History is full of women who\, like Pearl Buck\, pushed the boundaries of their time through politics and through culture. Often\, these women faced pushback for their radical ideas of equality—society viewed them as Dangerous Women. \n “History is full of incredible women\, like Pearl S. Buck\, who pushed the boundaries of their time even if their actions labelled them as ‘dangerous\,’” noted Kopacki. “I framed this exhibit around women who made their mark in education and civil rights because these issues are as relevant today as they were for the advocates who first paved the way. Women’s History Month is the perfect time to pay homage to women who changed the conversation in their own time and whose legacies continue to shape the world today.” \nThis virtual exhibit is free to view and can be found under the “Exhibits” section at https://pearlsbuck.org/visit-the-pearl-s-buck-house/plan-your-visit/ \nPearl S. Buck International® is a valued member of the A&C. They provide opportunities to explore and appreciate other cultures\, builds better lives for children around the globe and promotes the legacy of their founder by preserving and interpreting her National Historic Landmark Home.
