DESCRIPTION:First Thursdays Salon Night \nMarch 7 \n7-8:30 pm Freeman Hall\, 181 East Court Street\, Doylestown\, PA \nFive area writers read selections from their works of fiction\, poetry\, and nonfiction followed by a relaxed discussion and light refreshments in Freeman Hall. \n  \nMEET THE WRITERS: \nLCW Allingham is a Philadelphia area author\, artist\, and editor. Her short fiction has appeared in numerous anthologies and her piece\, “Cellar Door” won second place in the 2023 Bucks County Short Fiction contest. She is the co-founder and executive editor of the indie press\, Speculation Publications. Her horror novella Muse is coming out in April\, 2024\, and her debut historical novel\, Lady\, will both be out in September\, 2024. \nBill Hemmig’s first short story collection\, Americana: Stories was recently published by Read Furiously\, which also published his novella\, Brethren Hollow\, and two of his stories in its Life in the Garden State anthologies. He has had stories published in The Madison Review\, Philadelphia Stories\, Pink Disco\, BarBar\, and Children\, Churches and Daddies(cc&d)\, and he is a three-time finalist in the New Millennium Writing Awards. \nVasiliki Katsarou is a Greek and American poet\, editor\, independent curator\, and sometime filmmaker. She is the author of three poetry collections\, Memento Tsunami\, Three Sea Stones\, and the just published The Second Home. Her award-winning 35mm short film Fruitlands 1843 was screened at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and will be re-released in 2024.. Her new publishing venture is Solitude Hill Press. \nKevin Taylor is a poet\, songwriter\, and board game designer. he was 2nd runner up for the 2023 bucks county poet laureate contest\, has an upcoming full-length album\, and recently won #1 new solo designer in a contest on the largest board game site in the world. he lives in bucks county with a few stink bugs that overwinter with him. \nLinda C. Wisniewski is a former librarian and journalist living in Doylestown\, PA. She teaches memoir workshops and volunteers as a docent for Pearl S. Buck International. Linda’s work has been published in anthologies and literary magazines including The Sun\, Manifest Station\, The Sunlight Press and Hippocampus. She is the author of Off Kilter\, a memoir and Where the Stork Flies\, a time travel novel. \n  \nFirst Thursdays Salon Nights are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. \nThe honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and “The Lenel Education Fund.”

We will open for artwork and poetry entries beginning January 15 through January 31\, 2024. \nThe Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County will be accepting submissions for “April: 30 Days of Inspiration\,” a poem-a-day-paired-with-an-artwork-a-day social media campaign in recognition of National Poetry Month. Submissions will be accepted January 15 -31\, 2024. \nFor complete guidelines and how to submit visit: https://www.bucksarts.org/30-days/ \nOne poem paired with one artwork will be featured daily throughout the month of April on the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County’s social media pages. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe seek submissions of poetry and artwork that explore what strengthens\, connects\, calms\, or revives. Free to attend\, parking is available on site. \nMEET THE WRITERS:  \nJulie Cooper-Fratrik is a former Bucks County Poet Laureate with her MFA from Goddard/VT College\, winner of an Achievement Grant in Poetry from Leeway Foundation in Philadelphia\, and former Creative Fellow at the Psychiatric Center of Philadelphia. Julie is currently working on a manuscript of shorter contemplative poems with an unidentified speaker or speakers. \nDante del Vecchio is a poet\, artist\, and musician from Bucks County\, PA.  Born in a car on the Garden State Parkway\, and originally from Long Beach Island\, NJ\, Dante believes his early childhood (in a then unspoiled and undeveloped environment) led to a lifelong love of beauty and nature. Besides performing solo\, Dante belongs to the band\, Great Blue Buddha. He writes in a variety of styles and attributes his experience as a poet to a smooth transition to songwriting.   \nJennifer Nelson is a writer and teacher living in Bucks County. Last fall\, her book Teaching with Heart: Lessons Learned in a Classroom was published. She runs Your Stories\, a writing services company. She studied journalism at Columbia University and creative writing at Vermont College of Fine Arts. She’s a graduate of the University of California\, Berkeley.   \nDavid R. Roth’s debut novel\, The Femme Fatale Hypothesis\, was released by Regal House Publishing in November 2021. It was an INDIE Book of the Year finalist and won International Book Awards’ Best Literary Fiction. Driftwood Press has twice selected his stories as quarter-finalists in their Adrift Short Story Contest. Athe the event he will be reading from his second novel set in the fictional Pennsylvania river town of Marrsville\, The Gift of Death.   \nTara Tamburello is the current Poet Laureate of Bucks County and a past winner of the Bucks County Short Fiction Contest. Her writing has appeared in Ghost City Review\, Bone Parade\, Rust + Moth\, Menacing Hedge\, and other journals and anthologies. Abueva (New Hope\, PA) is author of Boy Wander – A Coming of Age Memoir (Rattling Good Yarns Press) and recipient of the Lambda Literary J. Michael Samuel Prize. He is the author of two chapbooks of poetry\, most recently The Write Metaphor\, and his creative nonfiction has been featured in Solstice Literary Magazine and Narrative. \nFilipina-American Anna Maria Manalo is an author of paranormal suspense memoirs and anthologies. She specializes in hauntings brought about by catastrophic events such as WWII\, acts of human violence\, odd and strange entities that appear in remote\, isolated or abandoned places\, or beings created by human thought called Tulpas. \nMacmillan published Judith McNally’s first novel\, Jigsaw\, in 1981. The New Federal Theatre\, NYC\, optioned her Charlie Parker play\, Birdland\, and the NJ State Council on the Arts awarded her a Top Priority Prose Fellowship before that. Now she most enjoys writing short\, comic dialogues\, a.k.a. “micro-logues!”  \nMargaret Montet’s narratives of place feature music\, memoir\, and culture. Also a college librarian\, she holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction\, and presents multimedia music-centered lectures at lifelong learning venues. Her creative nonfiction has been published in many journals and anthologies. Space is limited and parking is free!\nFor reservations\, email: programs@bucksarts.org.                                                    \nMEET THE ARTISTS: \nCheryl Bomba became involved with photography as a special education teacher when she bought one of the first digital cameras to take portraits of her students with autism. Her interests are capturing small moments in nature\, architecture\, and sculpture and helping other photographers achieve their artistic visions through iPhonography classes.  \nJoseph Chelius was the 2000 Bucks County poet laureate\, and in 2017 was the first place winner of the inaugural Bucks County Short Story competition.  Joe’s work has appeared in Cider Press Review\, Commonweal\, Poet Lore\, Poetry East\, Rattle\, and other journals.  He has published two full-length collections of poems with WordTech Communications: The Art of Acquiescence (2014) and Crossing State Lines (2020). \nLuray Gross\, a storyteller and teaching artist as well as a poet\, is the author of four collections of poetry\, most recently Lift\, published by Ragged Sky Press.  She grew up on a dairy farm in Bucks Co. in a household rich in books and music.  Reading poetry helped her survive adolescence\, and poetry has helped keep her sane ever since.  \nSean Hanrahan (he/him/his) is a gay Philadelphia poet hailing from Dale City\, Virginia. He is the author of Hardened Eyes on the Scan\, Safer Behind Popcorn\, and Gay Cake. He has taught classes on chapbook creation and ekphrastic poetry and has hosted various poetry events\, including a bimonthly series for Moonstone. \nGun-Marie Nalsen writes\, “I am a long time weaver and fiber artist. Needle felting\, punch needle\, tapestry and rug hooking\, have been my most used media until about a year ago when I started experimenting with watercolors. To my delight I discovered that using watercolors is very similar to needle felting with wool. It has the same process of layering translucent colors\, it feels playful and spontaneous.” \nFrancisco Silva writes\, “I am a painter who works mainly in oils. My home studio is located in the small town of Frenchtown\, New Jersey\, on the Delaware River. In my artwork\, I examine different themes preferring to draw from my personal experiences and my reaction to those experiences.” \nWendy Fulton Steginsky has authored three books of poetry. She attributes her love for the art form to growing up on the shores of Bermuda where the sea’s rhythms seeped into her bones and stayed. Her book\, “Let This Be Enough” (Kelsay Books\, 2016) won Honorable Mention in Bermuda’s 2018 Literary Awards. \n\nLiterary Arts Salons are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. The honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and “The Lenel Education Fund.” \n

DESCRIPTION:First Thursday Literary Arts Salon March 2\, 2023 \n7-8:30 pm at Freeman Hall\, 181 East Court Street\, Doylestown. \nFeaturing five wonderful writers: Liz Chang\, Joseph Chelius\, Grant Clauser\, Lynn Fanok\, and Elizabeth Luciano. \nWriters will read selections from their work followed by a relaxed discussion and Q & A session and light refreshments in the parlor at Freeman Hall. \nBooks will be available for sale.  \nFor reservations email: programs@bucksarts.org \nMEET THE ARTISTS: \nLiz Chang was 2012 Montgomery County Poet Laureate in Pennsylvania. Her poems have appeared in Verse Daily\, Exit 7\, Breakwater Review and Stoneboat Literary Journal\, among others. Her chapbook Museum of Things is forthcoming from Finishing Line Press in 2023. Chang’s translation of Claude de Burine’s poetry is anthologized in Paris in Our View from l’Association des Amis de Shakespeare Company. She is Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Moravian University. \nJoseph Chelius was the 2000 Bucks County poet laureate\, and in 2017 was the first place winner of the inaugural Bucks County Short Story competition. Joe’s work has appeared in Cider Press Review\, Commonweal\, Poet Lore\, Poetry East\, Rattle\, and other journals. He has published two full-length collections of poems with WordTech Communications: The Art of Acquiescence (2014) and Crossing State Lines (2020). \nGrant Clauser is the author of five books\, most recently Muddy Dragon on the Road to Heaven (winner of the Codhill Press Poetry Award). He’s a past Poet Laureate of Montgomery County. Poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review\, Greensboro Review\, Kenyon Review\, and other journals. He works as an editor and teaches at Rosemont College. \nLynn Fanok spent her childhood in New Jersey\, and has lived in Bucks County for over twenty-five years. Her new book of poetry\, Bread and Fumes\, explores the cultural influences of her father’s Ukrainian heritage\, and the challenges of being the daughter of a Nazi labor camp survivor. Her poetry appears in Painted Bride Quarterly\, Tiny Seed Journal\, Schuylkill Valley Journal\, Red Wolf Press\, and tiny wren lit. Lynn lives with her husband in Bucks County\, Pennsylvania. \nElizabeth Luciano grew up on the Jersey Shore and earned a BA and an MFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After spending some time working as a journalist and public relations specialist\, she changed careers and became an educator. She has worked at Bucks County Community College since 2004\, teaching all levels of composition. She is also the director of the Bucks County Short Fiction contests. Her work has been published in the Boston Globe\, the Philadelphia Inquirer\, and Seventeen Magazine\, among others. \nLiterary Arts Salons are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. The Honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and The Lenel Education Fund.

DESCRIPTION:Coming Up! \nApril: 30 Days of Inspiration\, 2023 \nThe submission link will be active January 15-31. \nPoets and artists are invited to share original work with the community through a poem-a-day matched with an artwork-a-day for every day in April\, in celebration of National Poetry Month and hosted by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. \nSubmissions will be accepted January 15-January 31\, 2023. The submission link will be active during that time. \nApril: 30 Days of Inspiration seeks poems and art that explore what strengthens\, connects\, revives or calms—from small\, seemingly ordinary moments to dramatic occasions\, broad landscapes\, and abstractions. A different poem matched with a different artwork will be featured on ACCBC social media each day of April\, 2023. Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County will curate the exhibition. \nCOMPLETE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES \nPoetry and artwork submissions will be accepted from January 15-31\, 2023. Books will be available for sale.   \nSeating is limited and free parking is available. \nReservations are required at info@bucksarts.org. \nMEET THE ARTISTS: \nRobbin Farr\, poet and essayist\, lives and writes in Doylestown\, where she lives with her patient husband and their cat\, Charlie who is prone to snort at the occasional poetic line. She is a founder and co-editor of River Heron Review\, an online poetry journal\, publishing and supporting poets from across the globe. When not writing poetry or editing\, you will find Robbin volunteering for the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. Her poetry has been published in various journals\, including Panoply\, Sky Island\, Atlanta Review\, 2River View and others. Her book\, Become Echo (Atmosphere Press)\, is launching next month. A MacDowell fellow\, she is a professor of English at Bucks County Community College\, where she directs the Bucks County Poet Laureate Program and the Wordsmiths Reading Series. \nRoy W. Smith runs a monthly poetry round table gathering at Prallsville Mills Stockton New Jersey and has been a long time organizer and MC of multiple poetry events in Bucks county and New Jersey. He believes strongly that poetry should be nurtured in a creative\, friendly space.  Roy has been published in River Heron Review\, Philadelphia stories\, Apiary\, Karla’s thirteen New Hope Poets and the Bucks County Herald and also Radius magazine as well as Phantom Billstickers cafe reader out of New Zealand among others.  \nThe honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and the Lenel Education Fund.
