DESCRIPTION:Four wonderful writers read selections from their work followed by a relaxed discussion and light refreshments in Freeman Hall. \nMeet the Writers \n\n\n\n		\n				\n						\n			\n								\n			\n		\n							\n			\n				\n						\n			\n								\n			\n		\n							\n			\n				\n						\n			\n								\n			\n		\n							\n			\n				\n						\n			\n								\n			\n		\n							\n			\n	\n	\n\n		\n		[Show slideshow]\n\n	\n	\n		\n			\n\nLake Angela’s books of poetry include Scivias Choreomaniae\, Organblooms\, and Words for the Dead. Her German-language collaborations with Georg Amsel are included in this year’s Best Literary Translations anthology\, and her nonfiction essays and poetry-dance works with Companyia Lake Angela advocate for the value of schizophrenia spectrum creativity. Lake is the 2024 Bucks County Poet Laureate \nLuray Gross\, a storyteller as well as a Bucks County Poet Laureate\, has published five collections of poetry\, most recently With This Body\, Ragged Sky Press. Named a Distinguished Teaching Artist by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts\, she has worked with thousands of students ranging in age from three to 83.L \nVasiliki Katsarou is the author of three poetry collections\, Memento Tsunami\, Three Sea Stones\, and most recently\, The Second Home (Finishing Line Press). Her award-winning 35mm short film Fruitlands 1843 was screened at the Newtown Theatre in Bucks County in 2024. She has been a Teaching Artist at Hunterdon Art Museum\, and collaborated with many local arts organizations including the Dodge Poetry Festival\, Hopewell Theater\, ArtYard\, and Princeton Humanities Council. \nMelissa D. Sullivan is a fiction writer\, journalist\, editor and attorney. Her fiction can be found in Dappled Things\, The Coil Magazine and elsewhere\, and her flash historical fiction “Dear Jacqueline” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her essays on arts and culture have appeared in Rivertowns Magazine\, Suburban Life and Hippocampus Magazine. In 2023\, Melissa was proud to take on the role of publisher of Neshaminy: The Bucks County Historical and Literary Magazine. \n  \nLiterary Arts Salons are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. \n  \n  \n

We are thrilled to partner with Doylestown Hospital to feature our members’ works from September through November 2024.  \n  \nExhibition Details: \nLocation: The Art Walk\, Doylestown Hospital \nDuration: September 2 to November 21\, 2024 \nImportant Dates: \nDrop-Off Date: Thursday\, August 29\, 2024\, from 9 to 11 AM \nPick-Up Date: Monday\, November 21\, 2024\, from 9 to 11 AM \nParticipation Requirements: \nYou must be an A&C Member to participate. \nEach artist must sign and bring a completed loan agreement\, which includes their contact information for potential sales and a brief description of their piece. \nEach piece should have a sign with contact information for prospective buyers\, matching the provided template. \nAll pieces must be wired for hanging. Framing is optional. DESCRIPTION:A&C First Thursdays Salon \nAugust 1\, 7-8:30pm \nFreeman Hall |181 East Court Street | Doylestown PA \nFive fantastic writers read selections from their work followed by a relaxed discussion and light refreshments in Freeman Hall. \n Julie Cooper-Fratrik is a former Bucks County Poet Laureate with her MFA from Goddard/VT College\, winner of an Achievement Grant in Poetry from Leeway Foundation in Philadelphia\, and former Creative Fellow at the Psychiatric Center of Philadelphia\, Julie is currently working on a manuscript of shorter contemplative poems with an unidentified speaker or speakers. \n Jennifer Fritch is a writer\, marketing strategist\, professor and former stand-up comedienne.  Her work has appeared in Flash Fiction Magazine\, US1 Worksheets\, Medicine and Meaning and Bucks County-Inspired Poems\, Prose and Pictures.  She is the 2023 Bucks County Short Fiction Contest winner. Jennifer holds a BA in psychology from University of Michigan\, an MBA in marketing from Rutgers and is pursuing a master’s in creative writing and literature at Harvard.                   \n Award-winning screenwriter Anna Maria Manalo authors mémoires\, anthologies and novels involving first-person accounts of hauntings in remote and historic sites all over the globe. Her cinematic storytelling style has placed her on the Amazon bestseller list for her previous release\, Haunted Heirlooms.  Her books are all rated from 4.3 to 5.0.  \n Julie Standig’s poetry has recently appeared in Schuylkill Journal Review\, US1 Poets/Del Val\, Gyroscope Review and Crone editions\, New Verse News\,as well as many others. She has a full collection of poems\, The Forsaken Little Black Book and chapbook\, Memsahib Memoir. Once a lifelong New Yorker she now happily resides in Bucks County\, Pa. with her husband and their Springer Spaniel. \n Tara Tamburello is the current Poet Laureate of Bucks County and a past winner of the Bucks County Short Fiction Contest. Her short fiction has appeared in numerous anthologies and her piece\, “Cellar Door” won second place in the 2023 Bucks County Short Fiction contest. She is the co-founder and executive editor of the indie press\, Speculation Publications. Her horror novella Muse is coming out in April\, 2024\, and her debut historical novel\, Lady\, will both be out in September\, 2024. \nBill Hemmig’s first short story collection\, Americana: Stories was recently published by Read Furiously\, which also published his novella\, Brethren Hollow\, and two of his stories in its Life in the Garden State anthologies. He has had stories published in The Madison Review\, Philadelphia Stories\, Pink Disco\, BarBar\, and Children\, Churches and Daddies(cc&d)\, and he is a three-time finalist in the New Millennium Writing Awards. \nVasiliki Katsarou is a Greek and American poet\, editor\, independent curator\, and sometime filmmaker. She is the author of three poetry collections\, Memento Tsunami\, Three Sea Stones\, and the just published The Second Home. Her award-winning 35mm short film Fruitlands 1843 was screened at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and will be re-released in 2024.. Her new publishing venture is Solitude Hill Press. \nKevin Taylor is a poet\, songwriter\, and board game designer. he was 2nd runner up for the 2023 bucks county poet laureate contest\, has an upcoming full-length album\, and recently won #1 new solo designer in a contest on the largest board game site in the world. he lives in bucks county with a few stink bugs that overwinter with him. \nLinda C. Wisniewski is a former librarian and journalist living in Doylestown\, PA. She teaches memoir workshops and volunteers as a docent for Pearl S. Buck International. Linda’s work has been published in anthologies and literary magazines including The Sun\, Manifest Station\, The Sunlight Press and Hippocampus. Julie is currently working on a manuscript of shorter contemplative poems with an unidentified speaker or speakers. \nDante del Vecchio is a poet\, artist\, and musician from Bucks County\, PA.  Born in a car on the Garden State Parkway\, and originally from Long Beach Island\, NJ\, Dante believes his early childhood (in a then unspoiled and undeveloped environment) led to a lifelong love of beauty and nature. Besides performing solo\, Dante belongs to the band\, Great Blue Buddha. He writes in a variety of styles and attributes his experience as a poet to a smooth transition to songwriting.   \nJennifer Nelson is a writer and teacher living in Bucks County. Last fall\, her book Teaching with Heart: Lessons Learned in a Classroom was published. She runs Your Stories\, a writing services company. She studied journalism at Columbia University and creative writing at Vermont College of Fine Arts. She’s a graduate of the University of California\, Berkeley.   \nDavid R. Roth’s debut novel\, The Femme Fatale Hypothesis\, was released by Regal House Publishing in November 2021. It was an INDIE Book of the Year finalist and won International Book Awards’ Best Literary Fiction. Driftwood Press has twice selected his stories as quarter-finalists in their Adrift Short Story Contest. He is the author of two chapbooks of poetry\, most recently The Write Metaphor\, and his creative nonfiction has been featured in Solstice Literary Magazine and Narrative. \nFilipina-American Anna Maria Manalo is an author of paranormal suspense memoirs and anthologies. She specializes in hauntings brought about by catastrophic events such as WWII\, acts of human violence\, odd and strange entities that appear in remote\, isolated or abandoned places\, or beings created by human thought called Tulpas. \nMacmillan published Judith McNally’s first novel\, Jigsaw\, in 1981. The New Federal Theatre\, NYC\, optioned her Charlie Parker play\, Birdland\, and the NJ State Council on the Arts awarded her a Top Priority Prose Fellowship before that. Now she most enjoys writing short\, comic dialogues\, a.k.a. “micro-logues!”  \nMargaret Montet’s narratives of place feature music\, memoir\, and culture. Also a college librarian\, she holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction\, and presents multimedia music-centered lectures at lifelong learning venues. Her creative nonfiction has been published in many journals and anthologies. Margaret’s first collection of travel essays is Nerd Traveler.  \nJennifer Nelson is a writer and teacher living in Middletown Township. She runs Your Stories\, a writing services company. She earned graduate degrees in journalism from Columbia University and creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her bachelor’s degree is from the University of California\, Berkeley. \nDavid. R. Roth is the author of the INDIES and International Book Award-winning novel The Femme Fatale Hypothesis. His short fiction has appeared in Moss.\, Passager Journal\, Writers Write\, among others. Driftwood Press has twice named him a quarter-finalist in its Adrift Short Story Contest. \nLinda C. Wisniewski is a former librarian and journalist living in Doylestown. She teaches memoir writing and volunteers at the Pearl Buck House\, and is the author of a memoir\, Off Kilter and a novel\, Where the Stork Flies.
