FINE ARTIST SPECIALIZING IN FLOORCLOTHS & CUSTOM CANVAS PIECES

I have been drawing and painting since I was 8 years old. I can still remember my excitement when taking my first art lesson using pastels at the YWCA. In college at the Rochester Institute of Technology I majored in Fine & Applied Arts and after graduating I worked as a Graphic Designer in NYC. Choosing to stay home to raise our children I found my way back to my love of painting.

After moving to Bucks County PA about 20 years ago I was asked to design, paint, and make a custom floorcloth. That was when I discovered a new and rewarding way to paint, design, and display my art.

Although I still do custom commission pieces for the wall my focus and passion has been creating floorcloths for over the past 12 years when I started my Floorcloth business.

Backstory on the history & process of floorcloths.

Floorcloths were introduced into the Americas by the early settlers. The women would take the tattered sails from the ships, paint them, brush with an oil varnish, and place on the sod floors of their homes. Floorcloths became a part of Americana until the turn of the century when linoleum became mass produced and eventually replaced the more labor intensive floorcloths.

Floorcloths are made of a heavyweight canvas which is stretched on a frame, primed, base painted, decorative painted, and finished with a protective poly acrylic coating. After being removed from the frame the edges are hemmed and ready for the floor.
