Juror Statement – Aida Birriteri’s “Blue Delaware” is a striking contemporary interpretation of the iconic bridges that lead across the Delaware River and draw visitors into our beloved community.

Aida Birritteri

Blue Delaware

“Blue Delaware” was inspired by summer nights at the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge. It is drawn with bamboo and cornstalk sticks with sumi-e INK and brushes. It is painted with watercolor and gouache as well.

This work will not need glass or a frame. It is adhered to a 5 x 7 x 7/8-inch-deep cradle board with Goldens extra heavy Gel medium. it is a non-yellowing, acid-free gel medium. Afterward, the work is sealed and varnished with an archival safe, mat spray varnish that is acid-free and has advanced non-yellowing and UV protection. The work is protected against fading, dirt, moisture and discoloration. Advantages of exhibiting work on paper this way is that the viewer has a better experience looking at the work when it is not behind glass.
