SUMMARY:Monday Poets: Hayden Saunier and Alfred Encarnacion | April 12\, 6:30-7:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of poetry with one of the longest running programs of the Free Library of Philadelphia- Monday Poets! This series began 26 years ago by two librarians Michele Gendron and Michele Beluomini. They started a long tradition of creating an opportunity for published poets to share their works with the library community. Please join us in honor of National Poetry Month for the second Monday Poets of 2021. The event is free but you must register at http://mondaypoets.evenbrite.com \nHayden Saunier is the author of four books of poetry and one chapbook; her newest book\, A Cartography of Home\, was published in February. Her work has been awarded the Pablo Neruda Prize\, Rattle Poetry Prize\, Gell Poetry Award\, Keystone Prize\, has been published a variety of journals including VQR\, Beloit Poetry Review\, Thrush\, 32 Poems and Tar River Poetry\, online at Poetry Daily and read numerous times by Garrison Keillor for The Writer’s Almanac. She is an actor and is the founder and director of No River Twice (poetry + improvisation) an interactive\, audience driven poetry reading/performance. \nAlfred Encarnacion has taught writing at Temple University and published poetry\, short stories\, essays\, and literary reviews in journals such as Crab Orchard Review\, Florida Review\, Indiana Review\, North American Review\, Paterson Literary Review\, The Schuylkill Valley Journal\, and The Virtual Artists Collective (online review). He has won a Wilson Foundation Scholarship Award\, a Poets House Scholarship in NYC\, and his poems have been nominated for five Pushcart Prizes. His debut book of poetry\, The Outskirts of Karma\, appeared in 2012\, Ambassadors of the Silenced\, his second collection\, was published in 2016\, and a third collection Precincts of the Passion Dragon is a work in progress. His chapbook Library Suite was a Moonstone Press Finalist and was published in 2019. Alfred is currently the director of the Stratford Public Library in South Jersey.

SUMMARY:Ekphrastic Workshop- Altered Book Assemblage
DESCRIPTION:Join Assemblage Artist Rebecca Kelly and Poet Hayden Saunier for this workshop combining visual arts and poetry. We will create assemblages using the materials of old recycled books and the texts of old sayings and adages as a starting point to create an expanded or “exploded” exploration of interiors and exteriors\, of words as objects. Writers and visual artists of all experience levels are invited to expand and explore their creative processes.

SUMMARY:Poems for The Lonely Girls
DESCRIPTION:A & C members Constance McBride (Visual Artist) and Bernadette McBride (Literary Artist) share the A & C Sculpture Spotlight from July 2023 to January 2024 at the Township Library of Lower Southampton\, highlighting five Lonely Girls (sculpture) and five Poems beginning July 7th. \nBernadette McBride is the award-winning author of four full-length poetry collections\, served as long-time poetry editor for the Schuylkill Valley Journal and is a founding member of poetry improv troupe\, No River Twice. Constance McBride’s work throws light on issues experienced by most women—from becoming aware of the male gaze and self-objectifying\, to harassment\, abuse\, marginalization and ageism. \nVisitors can see their work during library hours: 10am–8pm Monday through Thursday\, 12-4pm Friday\, and 9am–4pm Saturday. The Township Library of Lower Southampton is located at 1983 Bridgetown Pike in Feasterville-Trevose\, PA.

SUMMARY:The Impact of Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia
DESCRIPTION:Join us on October 25 from 6:30-7:30pm and learn more about the impact of Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia in our community. A speaker from the Alzheimers Association will offer a brief discussion on warning signs and risk factors\, healthy habits\, the differences between Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia\, the impact on families and caregivers\, and the importance of early detection. We are also joined by sisters Constance and Bernadette McBride\, of the Arts Council of Bucks County\, who will discuss the art and poetry they created as they helped their mother wrestle with Alzheimer’s Disease. \nTheir exhibit\, The Lonely Girls\, can be viewed at the library until January\, 2024.

DESCRIPTION:A&C First Thursdays Salon \nAugust 1\, 7-8:30pm \nFreeman Hall |181 East Court Street | Doylestown PA \nFive fantastic writers read selections from their work followed by a relaxed discussion and light refreshments in Freeman Hall. \n Julie Cooper-Fratrik is a former Bucks County Poet Laureate with her MFA from Goddard/VT College\, winner of an Achievement Grant in Poetry from Leeway Foundation in Philadelphia\, and former Creative Fellow at the Psychiatric Center of Philadelphia\, Julie is currently working on a manuscript of shorter contemplative poems with an unidentified speaker or speakers. \n Jennifer Fritch is a writer\, marketing strategist\, professor and former stand-up comedienne.  Her work has appeared in Flash Fiction Magazine\, US1 Worksheets\, Medicine and Meaning and Bucks County-Inspired Poems\, Prose and Pictures.  She is the 2023 Bucks County Short Fiction Contest winner. Jennifer holds a BA in psychology from University of Michigan\, an MBA in marketing from Rutgers and is pursuing a master’s in creative writing and literature at Harvard.                   \n Award-winning screenwriter Anna Maria Manalo authors mémoires\, anthologies and novels involving first-person accounts of hauntings in remote and historic sites all over the globe. Her cinematic storytelling style has placed her on the Amazon bestseller list for her previous release\, Haunted Heirlooms.  Her books are all rated from 4.3 to 5.0.  \n Julie Standig’s poetry has recently appeared in Schuylkill Journal Review\, US1 Poets/Del Val\, Gyroscope Review and Crone editions\, New Verse News\,as well as many others. She has a full collection of poems\, The Forsaken Little Black Book and chapbook\, Memsahib Memoir. Once a lifelong New Yorker she now happily resides in Bucks County\, Pa. with her husband and their Springer Spaniel. \n Tara Tamburello is the current Poet Laureate of Bucks County and a past winner of the Bucks County Short Fiction Contest. Her writing has appeared in Ghost City Review\, Bone Parade\,Rust + Moth\, Menacing Hedge\, and other journals and anthologies.
