SUMMARY:Francisco Silva Open Studio
DESCRIPTION:Arts & Cultural Council Member Francisco Silva is hosting an Open Studio on July 20 in Frenchtown\, NJ. Park in the downtown parking lots and walk to his home studio. \nAbout the Artist: \nFrancisco Silva was born in Lima\, Peru. When he was three his family immigrated to the United States settling in New Jersey where he was raised. Encouraged by his parents\, he began drawing at an early age. While attending Parsons School of Design he studied composition\, color and oil painting as well as graphic design. After graduating\, he continued oil painting and exhibited in various group shows at that time. \nCurrently\, his work has grown to include themes portraying the struggles of the everyday person. His influences include Edward Hopper and the Social Realist painters of the 1920s and 1930s. The rich textiles of his Peruvian roots are reflected in his use of vibrant color and his brushwork is a combination of loose\, painterly strokes and controlled detail. \nArtist Statement: \nMy painting is inspired by my surroundings and the daily interactions I experience within them. I use color to express and evoke emotion preferring to mix all colors\, including black\, from a limited palette. The process is analytical at first\, striving to create a balanced composition as a foundation for the work. When painting starts\, I apply loose strokes to convey movement and energy. As the painting evolves\, I refine only certain areas for emphasis and to create contrast. \nThrough my work\, I try to connect with the viewer by sharing my personal moments in life. As their eyes move through the painting\, I want them to ask questions about the subject matter\, the location and my interpretation of that instance. I want them to react to the canvases whether they’re large and panoramic scenes or smaller ones that are more personal and intimate. \nOpen Studio Details: \nDate: July 20\, 2024 \nHours: 11am – 5pm \nAddress: \n\n115 Harrison Street \n(at the corner of Harrison St. and 2nd St.) \nFrenchtown\, NJ

SUMMARY:SPECIAL EVENT: An Evening with Susan Seidelman - Film & Book Signing and Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a talk with Susan Seidelman about her new memoir\, “Desperately Seeking Something.” To assure your copy\, books can be preordered HERE. \nWe’ll screen one of Susan’s films and a Q&A will follow\, along with a post screening reception and book signing. Books will be available for purchase at the event. \nHer memoire “Desperately Seeking Something”\, is the funny and insightful first-person story of the trailblazing movie director of the 80s and 90s whose fearless punk drama\, “Smithereens” became the first American indie film to compete at Cannes\, and smash hit “Desperately Seeking Susan” led to a four-decade career in film. \nWe will start the evening with a screening of “Smithereens”\, the story of wild teen Wren (Susan Berman) who trades New Jersey for New York City\, where she hopes to join what’s left of the punk rock culture. She spends time hanging out with Paul (Brad Rinn)\, another young city transplant\, but he’s too safe for Wren’s tastes\, which run to narcissistic rockers. She finds one of these in Eric (Richard Hell)\, who’s about to cut a record in Los Angeles. Before long\, Wren is planning to accompany Eric when he heads west\, but it’s soon clear she’s put trust in the wrong person.

This is a journey with a man who has dedicated his life to understanding the connection between illness\, addiction\, trauma and society. These interconnected epidemics are\, according to Dr Maté\, normal. But not in the way you might think. Trauma is the invisible force that shapes our lives. It shapes the way we live\, the way we love and the way we make sense of the world. It is the root of our deepest wounds.

SUMMARY:ActorsNET - The Drag
DESCRIPTION:Drag culture meets drawing room dramedy as ActorsNET opens Mae West’s flamboyantly funny show\, THE DRAG\, on Friday\, April 26th at the Heritage Center Theater.  \nTHE DRAG is set in New York City during the 1920s where Dr. James Richmond (George Agalias) searches to cure homosexuality with the best of intentions\, while his friend Judge Kingsbury (Ken Ammerman) rails against their moral degradation. His son\, Rolly Kingsbury (Daniel Gleason)\, is married to Clair (Grace Albert)\, his childhood sweetheart and the Doctor’s daughter. \nUnbeknownst to his family\, Rolly has a flamboyant group of friends who all participate in the drag lifestyle. He is even known to host drag parties\, and is infatuated with his business partner\, Allen Grayson (Joey Poliziana). Rolly’s charmed life comes to a screeching halt thanks to thwarted ex-lovers\, and a cold-blooded murder. Those left behind are forced to reconcile the reality of who he was with the image they all believed in.  \nTHE DRAG is a love triangle topped with a decadent celebration of drag and sprinkled with a moral dilemma that still resonates today: How can we be ourselves in a world that is hostile to queer people? \nDirectors Hayley and Maryalice Rubins-Topoleski note\, “We seek to underscore the timeless nature of the themes explored in THE DRAG by blending the 1920’s and the 2020’s. Despite being nearly a century apart\, the events unfolding before you on stage are still taking place today\, serving as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle for equality and acceptance.” \nProducer Charlotte Kirkby adds\, “Mae West’s voice shines through this piece\, with her classic one-liners and double entendres. If that intrigues you\, as the playwright would say\, come up and see us sometime!” \nTHE DRAG is directed by Hayley Rubins-Topoleski and Maryalice Rubins-Topoleski. The show stars George Agalias as Dr. James Richmond\, Lorie Baldwin as Barbara Richmond/Hell’s Kitchen Kate\, Grace Albert as Clair\, Ken Ammerman as Judge Robert Kingsbury\, Daniel Gleason as Rolly Kingsbury\, Maryalice Rubins-Topoleski as Marion/Jessie\, Barry Leonard as Parsons\, Joey Poliziana as Allen Grayson\, Colin Dyce as David Caldwell\, Nicholas Pecht as Clem “The Doll” Hathaway\, G. Anthony Williams as Hal “The Duchess” Swanson\, Robert Greene as Winnie Lewis\, Emile Wong as Rosco Giggleswater/Detective\, and Joseph Ryan as Taxi Driver/Inspector.  The play is produced by Charlotte Kirkby and stage managed by Em Ricciardi.  \nMae West’s THE DRAG runs from April 26 to May 12\, 2024 at The Heritage Center Theatre\, 635 North Delmorr Avenue\, Morrisville – near the Calhoun Street Bridge.  Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.  There will be a special Saturday matinee at 2:00 p.m. on May 11\, 2024\, in addition to the regularly scheduled evening performance. Doors open one half hour before show time. THE DRAG has been adapted for ActorsNET by John Boccanfuso\, Barry Leonard\, and Maryalice Rubins-Topoleski.  \n            For tickets or additional information\, visit the web site:  www.actorsnetbucks.org.
