SUMMARY:SPECIAL EVENT: Weed the People Plus Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Post-screening Discussion with Mara Gordon\, a cannabis advocate\, entrepreneur and researcher who also appears in the film. \nSponsored by Baked by the River. \nBy federal law\, the possession of Cannabis is illegal in the United States\, forcing desperate parents to obtain cannabis oil from underground sources to save their children from childhood cancers. “Weed the People” follows these families through uncharted waters as they take their children’s survival into their own hands. Some of their miraculous outcomes beget the unsettling question at the heart of the film: If weed is truly saving lives\, why doesn’t the government want people to access it? Rated NR\, 1h34m.

SUMMARY:50 Years of John & Peter's: Stories\, Songs\, Sparkle & Spirit
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL EVENT: 50 Years of John & Peter’s: Stories\, Songs\, Sparkle & Spirit\n\nFriday\, October 13\, 2023\n7:00 PM  9:30 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nJohn & Peter’s\, a bar that boasts over 50 years of continuous music\, remains the eye of the hurricane in New Hope\, as gentrification swirls around it. The original John and Peter’s preserved the integrity of the bar by selling it five years ago to some of their dedicated employees\, so the beat goes on. \nAuthor Amy Yates Wuelfing embarked upon this labor of love with Joan Arkuszewski and Loren Hunt. Crafted through hundreds of hours of interviews and archival research\, this comprehensive oral history lays out the narrative of a small\, charming dive of a bar that has persevered through the decades by providing the local community with entertainment and a sense of belonging.
