DESCRIPTION:The 33rd annual Doylestown Arts Festival is coming up on September 7 – 8\, 2024. This fabulous event features 150+ juried artists\, live music on 5 stages\, live art and interactive demonstrations. There is one driving force that makes it possible – a sea of ‘blue shirts’. As a team of over 100 people\, the volunteers – fondly known as the blue shirts – do everything from setup and teardown to stage crew and parking management. This year is no different. If you’re looking for a way to get involved in the community\, meet some great people\, and help put on a Doylestown tradition\, they’d love to have you. You can sign up here. \n \nThe Arts & Cultural Council will have a booth at this year’s Doylestown Arts Festival\, and we are hoping for another successful event! On Saturday\, September 7 and Sunday\, September 8\, Co-chairs Charlene Cerasa & Clifford Eberly will need volunteers to assist in setting up\, staffing and tearing down the booth each day. DESCRIPTION:Arts & Cultural Council Member Lisa Domenic’a original artwork is available at the Yardley Refillery at 1 S Main Street in Yardley\, PA. \n“I am thrilled to have this opportunity to partner with a local store owner and install my colorful line work in downtown Yardley” said artist Lisa Domenic.  \nYardley Refillery owner\, Jaime Alford\, has already made a tremendous impact since their Grand Opening in November 2023. The new way of shopping on Main Street is focused on sustainability. The shop is more than just utilitarian\, it is a space that brings people together.  \nYardley resident\, Lisa Domenic is a contemporary Impressionist. Her experiments with watercolor and ink have led to some dynamic and unique pieces. The original artwork will be in the storefront throughout their summer campaign focused on water conservation. Books will be available for purchase at the event. \nHer memoire “Desperately Seeking Something”\, is the funny and insightful first-person story of the trailblazing movie director of the 80s and 90s whose fearless punk drama\, “Smithereens” became the first American indie film to compete at Cannes\, and smash hit “Desperately Seeking Susan” led to a four-decade career in film. \nWe will start the evening with a screening of “Smithereens”\, the story of wild teen Wren (Susan Berman) who trades New Jersey for New York City\, where she hopes to join what’s left of the punk rock culture. She spends time hanging out with Paul (Brad Rinn)\, another young city transplant\, but he’s too safe for Wren’s tastes\, which run to narcissistic rockers. She finds one of these in Eric (Richard Hell)\, who’s about to cut a record in Los Angeles. Before long\, Wren is planning to accompany Eric when he heads west\, but it’s soon clear she’s put trust in the wrong person.

Margot’s toast to the bride and groom at the rehearsal dinner goes sideways\, throwing the entire evening into chaos. \nLucy is a graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts\, where she majored in Film & Television Production. She has worked in development\, on-set and in talent management. Lucy has been recognized by festivals such as LA Shorts Fest and Catalina Film Festival. In 2023\, she received an award for best drama from the Television Academy for the short form series “Provenance.” Her film “I Now Denounce You” was most recently selected for the 2024 National Film Festival for Talented Youth in Seattle.

SUMMARY:ActorsNET - The Drag
DESCRIPTION:Drag culture meets drawing room dramedy as ActorsNET opens Mae West’s flamboyantly funny show\, THE DRAG\, on Friday\, April 26th at the Heritage Center Theater.  \nTHE DRAG is set in New York City during the 1920s where Dr. James Richmond (George Agalias) searches to cure homosexuality with the best of intentions\, while his friend Judge Kingsbury (Ken Ammerman) rails against their moral degradation. His son\, Rolly Kingsbury (Daniel Gleason)\, is married to Clair (Grace Albert)\, his childhood sweetheart and the Doctor’s daughter. \nUnbeknownst to his family\, Rolly has a flamboyant group of friends who all participate in the drag lifestyle. He is even known to host drag parties\, and is infatuated with his business partner\, Allen Grayson (Joey Poliziana). Rolly’s charmed life comes to a screeching halt thanks to thwarted ex-lovers\, and a cold-blooded murder. Those left behind are forced to reconcile the reality of who he was with the image they all believed in.  \nTHE DRAG is a love triangle topped with a decadent celebration of drag and sprinkled with a moral dilemma that still resonates today: How can we be ourselves in a world that is hostile to queer people? \nDirectors Hayley and Maryalice Rubins-Topoleski note\, “We seek to underscore the timeless nature of the themes explored in THE DRAG by blending the 1920’s and the 2020’s. Her short fiction has appeared in numerous anthologies and her piece\, “Cellar Door” won second place in the 2023 Bucks County Short Fiction contest. She is the co-founder and executive editor of the indie press\, Speculation Publications. Her horror novella Muse is coming out in April\, 2024\, and her debut historical novel\, Lady\, will both be out in September\, 2024. \nBill Hemmig’s first short story collection\, Americana: Stories was recently published by Read Furiously\, which also published his novella\, Brethren Hollow\, and two of his stories in its Life in the Garden State anthologies. He has had stories published in The Madison Review\, Philadelphia Stories\, Pink Disco\, BarBar\, and Children\, Churches and Daddies(cc&d)\, and he is a three-time finalist in the New Millennium Writing Awards. \nVasiliki Katsarou is a Greek and American poet\, editor\, independent curator\, and sometime filmmaker. She is the author of three poetry collections\, Memento Tsunami\, Three Sea Stones\, and the just published The Second Home. Her award-winning 35mm short film Fruitlands 1843 was screened at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and will be re-released in 2024.. Her new publishing venture is Solitude Hill Press. \nKevin Taylor is a poet\, songwriter\, and board game designer. he was 2nd runner up for the 2023 bucks county poet laureate contest\, has an upcoming full-length album\, and recently won #1 new solo designer in a contest on the largest board game site in the world. he lives in bucks county with a few stink bugs that overwinter with him. \nLinda C. Wisniewski is a former librarian and journalist living in Doylestown\, PA. She teaches memoir workshops and volunteers as a docent for Pearl S. Buck International. Linda’s work has been published in anthologies and literary magazines including The Sun\, Manifest Station\, The Sunlight Press and Hippocampus. SUMMARY:Francisco Silva - This Looks Familiar
DESCRIPTION:About the Artist: \nFrancisco Silva was born in Lima\, Peru. When he was three his family immigrated to the United States settling in New Jersey where he was raised. Encouraged by his parents\, he began drawing at an early age. While attending Parsons School of Design he studied composition\, color and oil painting as well as graphic design. After graduating\, he continued oil painting and exhibited in various group shows at that time. \nFrancisco started working as a graphic designer at an art magazine that took up much of his time and eventually stopped painting. His profession turned from graphic design\, to web design\, and finally to web development. January 2019 marked his return to painting after many years of absence. He began with landscapes inspired by his backpacking trips on the Appalachian Trail. \nCurrently\, his work has grown to include themes portraying the struggles of the everyday person. His influences include Edward Hopper and the Social Realist painters of the 1920s and 1930s. The rich textiles of his Peruvian roots are reflected in his use of vibrant color and his brushwork is a combination of loose\, painterly strokes and controlled detail.

Filmmaker Andre Gaines examines the remarkable life and career of stand-up comic\, activist and pop culture icon Dick Gregory with a thoughtful film about a politically committed artist that doesn’t short the politics or the art\, but instead examines how one fueled the other. \nDr. Gregory\, who appears in the film\, maintained a chiropractic practice in Washington for 25 years\, caring for DC natives\, leading entertainment figures\, and friends in the movement including Rosa Parks\, Coretta Scott King\, Betty Shabazz\, Dorothy Height\, Cicely Tyson\, and Stevie Wonder. When Dick Gregory decided to resume an active speaking and entertainment schedule\, he became his father’s manager.
