SUMMARY:First Thursday Literary & Arts Salon | Celebrate 30 Days of Inspiration
DESCRIPTION:First Thursday Literary & Arts Salon \nMay 4\, 7 pm at Freeman Hall\, 181 East Court Street\, Doylestown \nDon’t miss this salon featuring poets and artists whose work is paired in this year’s 30 Days of Inspiration project!\nJoin us for a relaxed discussion and light refreshments in the parlor of Freeman Hall. Space is limited and parking is free!\nFor reservations\, email: programs@bucksarts.org.                                                    \nMEET THE ARTISTS: \nCheryl Bomba became involved with photography as a special education teacher when she bought one of the first digital cameras to take portraits of her students with autism. Her interests are capturing small moments in nature\, architecture\, and sculpture and helping other photographers achieve their artistic visions through iPhonography classes.  \nJoseph Chelius was the 2000 Bucks County poet laureate\, and in 2017 was the first place winner of the inaugural Bucks County Short Story competition.  Joe’s work has appeared in Cider Press Review\, Commonweal\, Poet Lore\, Poetry East\, Rattle\, and other journals.  He has published two full-length collections of poems with WordTech Communications: The Art of Acquiescence (2014) and Crossing State Lines (2020). \nLuray Gross\, a storyteller and teaching artist as well as a poet\, is the author of four collections of poetry\, most recently Lift\, published by Ragged Sky Press.  She grew up on a dairy farm in Bucks Co. in a household rich in books and music.  Reading poetry helped her survive adolescence\, and poetry has helped keep her sane ever since.  \nSean Hanrahan (he/him/his) is a gay Philadelphia poet hailing from Dale City\, Virginia. He is the author of Hardened Eyes on the Scan\, Safer Behind Popcorn\, and Gay Cake. He has taught classes on chapbook creation and ekphrastic poetry and has hosted various poetry events\, including a bimonthly series for Moonstone. \nGun-Marie Nalsen writes\, “I am a long time weaver and fiber artist. Needle felting\, punch needle\, tapestry and rug hooking\, have been my most used media until about a year ago when I started experimenting with watercolors. To my delight I discovered that using watercolors is very similar to needle felting with wool. It has the same process of layering translucent colors\, it feels playful and spontaneous.” \nFrancisco Silva writes\, “I am a painter who works mainly in oils. My home studio is located in the small town of Frenchtown\, New Jersey\, on the Delaware River. In my artwork\, I examine different themes preferring to draw from my personal experiences and my reaction to those experiences.” \nWendy Fulton Steginsky has authored three books of poetry. She attributes her love for the art form to growing up on the shores of Bermuda where the sea’s rhythms seeped into her bones and stayed. Her book\, “Let This Be Enough” (Kelsay Books\, 2016) won Honorable Mention in Bermuda’s 2018 Literary Awards. \n\nLiterary Arts Salons are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. The honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and “The Lenel Education Fund.” \n

SUMMARY:ActorsNET's production of The Merry Wives of Windsor
DESCRIPTION:            ActorsNET finishes its 26th season with a 1960s sitcom reboot of The Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare\, a bright and breezy comedy of sexual jealousy and overbearing egos set against a landscape of summer resort leisure and the “dirty dancing” music trend.  \nFor tickets or additional information\, visit the web site:  www.actorsnetbucks.org.  \nShow times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.  Doors open one half hour before show time.  \n            The play follows Shakespeare’s well-known old scoundrel\, John “Sinjin” Falstaff (played by Rupert Hinton)\, who has become a nightclub entertainer\, headlining at the Garter Restaurant in the Windsor Resort. Down on his luck\, Falstaff schemes to seduce the titular merry wives\, Mrs. Alice Ford (Cat Miller) and Mrs. Margaret Page (Shelli Pentimall Bookler)\, in an attempt to restore his fortunes. He sends them identical love letters\, but his double-dealing ruse is discovered\, and the two ladies are determined to teach him a lesson… or two… or three. \n            Meanwhile\, the irrationally jealous Frank Ford (Joseph Torsella) has heard of Falstaff’s plan and decides to test his wife’s fidelity with some help from George Page (Greg Davis) and other Resort guests. In a subplot of young love\, the Pages’ daughter\, Anne “Goodbody” Page (Sarah Jane Zawodniak)\, is pursued by three suitors – Abraham Slender (Tyler Eisenacher)\, Doctor Caius (George Agalias)\, and young Fenton (Thomas Wick) – each of whom is paying the doctor’s receptionist\, Nell Quickly (Lorie Baldwin)\, to push their cause. \nThere is much mayhem\, dodgy disguises\, misdirected letters\, a “duel” and a midnight denouement\, before the tangle is unraveled\, the men-behaving-badly get their comeuppance\, and the good prevails. \n            George Hartpence\, the play’s director\, notes that The Merry Wives of Windsor is a farce and one of the very few Shakespearean plays about normal middle-class folks who are behaving badly\, and then get their just dessert. “It’s about action\, not about the deep questions that keep people up at night. These are characters who just seem to bump into each other and bounce off each other — so that by the end\, hopefully they learn something\,” says Hartpence. \n            “Our cast and crew really brought this 1602 comedy into the 1960s. From the costumes that perfectly suit the personalities of the characters\, such as Mrs. Page’s youthful polka dot dress\, to the energetic music pieces and choreography that make you feel like participating in the talent show from Dirty Dancing – it will certainly be a blast from the past for some of our audience members\,” says the producer\, Karolina Matyka.     \n            The Merry Wives of Windsor is directed by George Hartpence with Carol Thompson as assistant director.  The show stars Rupert Hinton as John “Sinjin” Falstaff\, Cat Miller and Joseph Torsella as Mrs. Alice Ford and Mr. Frank Ford\, Shelli Pentimall Bookler and Greg Davis as Mrs. Margaret Page and Mr. George Page\, Sarah Jane Zawodniak as Miss Anne Page\, Ed Patton as Justice Robert Shallow\, Barney Stone as Rabbi Saul Reichberg\, Tyler Eisenacher as Abraham Slender\, Barry Leonard as Bardolph\, Lester Holmes as Nym\, Ronald Pae as Pistol\, Hans Peters as Peter Simple and Robert\, Ellen Wisnosky as Hostess of the Garter\, Lindsay Perr as Robin\, Lorie Baldwin as Nell Quickly\, James Cordingley as Jack Rugby\, George Agalias as Doctor Caius\, Thomas Wick as Fenton\, and Richard Conte as John.  Theresa Vassallo stage manages with assistance of Barry Leonard.  \n            The Merry Wives of Windsor runs from June 9 to June 25 at the Heritage Center Theatre\, located at 635 North Delmorr Avenue\, Morrisville – near the Calhoun Street Bridge.  Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.  Doors open one half hour before show time.  \n            For tickets or additional information\, visit the web site:  www.actorsnetbucks.org.  \nImage | From left to right: Cat Miller and Shelli Pentimall Bookler | The merry wives\, Mrs. Alice Ford and Mrs. Margaret Page\, discover Falstaff’s scheme and come up with their own plan to teach him a lesson.

SUMMARY:WHYY Art21 series "Everyday Icons"
DESCRIPTION:The first episode of the season\, “Everyday Icons\,” features Amy Sherald\, Rose B. Simpson\, Alex Da Corte\, and Daniel Lind-Ramos as they build new and exciting visual worlds and question the monuments and icons that came before. This hour explores artists who reflect on the aesthetic traditions and histories we encounter daily. Their work expands our visual vocabulary to reflect a changing society. In these artists’ practices\, the often rigid boundaries of expectation are put aside in favor of new ideas\, unorthodox approaches\, and playful propositions for who and what symbolizes a culture. \nFree\, but please register to attend. Donations appreciated.

SUMMARY:Juneteenth Special Event: The Melt Goes On Forever | The Art & Times Of David Hammons
DESCRIPTION:Followed by a Juneteenth party at Scrambled Gallery in New Hope\, PA. (on the boardwalk by New Hope Arts). Join us for drinks\, light fare\, and live music. \nTHE MELT GOES ON FOREVER chronicles the singular career of the elusive African-American art star David Hammons from Watts rebellion era ’60s L.A. to global art world prominence today. Hammons’ category-defying practice – rooted in a deep critique of American society and the elite art world – is in the words of one art critic “an invitation to confront the fissures between races.” Rated NR\, 1h 41m.

SUMMARY:Ira Karp and Bread and Puppet Theatre: "The Honey Let’s Go Home Circus" | Studio Route 29 | June 22 & 23\, 6pm
DESCRIPTION:Ira Karp and Bread and Puppet Theatre: “The Honey Let’s Go Home Circus”\nThursday\, June 22nd\, 6pm\nFriday\, June 23rd\, 6pm\n \nSliding scale tickets available here\n\nThe Honey Let’s Go Home Circus stars and is directed by 15 year old Ira Karp\, who grew up in the Bread and Puppet Theater.  Ira\, who has Down Syndrome\, uses the language of Bread and Puppet to construct a brightly colored and whimsical puppet circus.   Purple cabbages sing and dance.  A lion conducts an orchestra.  Cardboard businessmen complain that their heads ache: the solution?  Bake a gingerbread man!    Ira’s favorite stories — Grimm’s fairy tales\, Narnia\, the Wizard of Oz— are juxtaposed with real life stories\, both serious and playful. A trip to the fair with friends\, a puppet falling down and getting up\, and his grandmother’s death all become “acts” performed by Ira and his crew.   Ira’s quirky sense of humor and freedom from conventional norms\, his exuberance and delight in the performance make this a show not to be missed!   \nIra Karp is a performer\, director and high school student from Greensboro\, Vermont.  Every summer he spends as much time as possible at the Bread and Puppet Theater\, which his grandfather\, Peter Schumann\, directs.  At Bread and Puppet\, Ira has performed as a flag waver\, an announcer\, an accordion player\, Humanity\, Hamlet/Ophelia\, and as a drummer.  Ira loves cooking\, the Wizard of Oz\,  school\, pop radio\, and spending time with his friends.  He attends Hazen Union High School in Hardwick\, Vermont.  In March 2023\, he was a semi-finalist in the Vermont Poetry Out Loud contest.  Ira lives with his parents\, their cats\, Lala and Starlight\, and dog Maika.  He plans to be an EMT and a baker when he grows up. \n \nLocation: Studio Route 29\, 62A Trenton Ave\, Frenchtown\, NJ 08825-1265
