DESCRIPTION:Psychedelia Plus Q&A with Filmmaker and Lobby Reception\nSaturday\, November 12\, 2022\n7:00 PM\nFollowed by a Q&A with filmmaker Patrick Murphy. Pat is a documentary filmmaker and professional film editor\, whose work includes programs for PBS\, American Masters\, and People magazine. He started making “Psychedelia” in 2011\, upon learning about the NYU Psilocybin Cancer Anxiety Study. He produced\, financed\, and distributed the film completely independently. Patrick just moved to Lambertville from CA. We hope to give him a big welcome! \nPSYCHEDELIA is a documentary film about psychedelic drugs and their ability to induce mystical and religious experiences. The film chronicles their use in controlled research studies prior to the cultural upheaval of the 1960s\, when LSD was regarded as a promising medical breakthrough\, as well as their recent re-emergence in psychiatry. Featuring leading experts in the field of psychedelic research\, the film tells the story of medical professionals who have re-introduced these compounds into a legal and growing field of study. First-person accounts from a study on end-of-life anxiety explore the profound\, life-altering insights psychedelics induce in participants and what these insights might mean for society at large.

Books will be available for sale.   \nSeating is limited and free parking is available. \nReservations are required at info@bucksarts.org. \nMEET THE ARTISTS: \nRobbin Farr\, poet and essayist\, lives and writes in Doylestown\, where she lives with her patient husband and their cat\, Charlie who is prone to snort at the occasional poetic line. She is a founder and co-editor of River Heron Review\, an online poetry journal\, publishing and supporting poets from across the globe. When not writing poetry or editing\, you will find Robbin volunteering for the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. Her poetry has been published in various journals\, including Panoply\, Sky Island\, Atlanta Review\, 2River View and others. Her book\, Become Echo (Atmosphere Press)\, is launching next month. Her writing has appeared in the American Poetry Review\, Colorado Review\, Kenyon Review\, New England Review\, Poetry Daily\, Verse Daily\, Volt\, and other journals. A MacDowell fellow\, she is a professor of English at Bucks County Community College\, where she directs the Bucks County Poet Laureate Program and the Wordsmiths Reading Series. \nRoy W. Smith runs a monthly poetry round table gathering at Prallsville Mills Stockton New Jersey and has been a long time organizer and MC of multiple poetry events in Bucks county and New Jersey. He believes strongly that poetry should be nurtured in a creative\, friendly space.  Roy has been published in River Heron Review\, Philadelphia stories\, Apiary\, Karla’s thirteen New Hope Poets and the Bucks County Herald and also Radius magazine as well as Phantom Billstickers cafe reader out of New Zealand among others.  \nThe honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and the Lenel Education Fund.

DESCRIPTION:The Price of Silence: The Forgotten Story of NJ’s Enslaved People plus Discussion\nSaturday\, January 14\, 2023\n4:00 PM 6:00 PM\nFor more information and tickets: https://www.acmescreeningroom.org/now-playing/mlk\nNew Jersey\, the Garden State\, is known for its produce\, but not for the enslaved people who tilled the soil. In this two-part PBS documentary\, descendants and historians tell their stories and why it was the last northern state to end the institution of slavery. Part one offers an overview of the state’s history of enslaved people and shared poignant family stories of its earliest freed slaves. In episode two\, we look at the Lost Souls Project\, which is working to remember and identify African Americans who were forcibly removed from New Jersey and taken to Louisiana and explore the lasting impact of slavery in the state. The book “If These Stones Could Talk” was Ridgeley Hutchinson’s inspiration for making the film. We will be joined for a Discussion with Filmmaker Ridgeley Hutchinson along with co-authors Beverly Mills and Elaine Buck (If These Stones Could Talk).

DESCRIPTION:Coming Up! \nApril: 30 Days of Inspiration\, 2023 \nThe submission link will be active January 15-31. \nPoets and artists are invited to share original work with the community through a poem-a-day matched with an artwork-a-day for every day in April\, in celebration of National Poetry Month and hosted by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. \nSubmissions will be accepted January 15-January 31\, 2023. The submission link will be active during that time. \nApril: 30 Days of Inspiration seeks poems and art that explore what strengthens\, connects\, revives or calms—from small\, seemingly ordinary moments to dramatic occasions\, broad landscapes\, and abstractions. A different poem matched with a different artwork will be featured on ACCBC social media each day of April\, 2023. Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County will curate the exhibition. \nCOMPLETE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES \nPoetry and artwork submissions will be accepted from January 15-31\, 2023. The submission link will be active during that time. \nArtists and writers do not have to be residents of Bucks County or members of the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County to participate. DESCRIPTION:Since 2012\, Helen Rebekah Garber has incorporated her science and nursing experiences into her art. As a way to cope with the stress\, trauma and uncertainty that came with working with patients during the pandemic\, Garber transferred daily calculations onto her paintings which are on view in the exhibition\, “Code Number Safe [Un]Safe” in the Hicks Art Center Gallery. Free to attend\, but please register to reserve your seat below. \n“Cruz\,” a documentary that tells the story of a Rarámuri family in search of justice plus a conversation with filmmaker Teresa Camou Guerrero. \nCruz\, a determined Raramuri indigenous man from Mexico\, and his community were driven from their land by a drug cartel because they refused to grow opium poppies instead of corn. They now live in exile and fear for their lives while desperately seeking justice and a safe return to their homeland. This weekend will be the first time “Cruz” has been screened in person with the filmmaker in the United States. \n“Cruz” aims to raise awareness about the consequences of illegal drug production in indigenous and peasant communities\, the loss of territory and identity\, and the lack of justice in Mexico.

Free and Open to Public \nHailing from New Orleans\, Troy Andrews – better known as Trombone Shorty – fuses the big brass band sound of his birthplace with more modern influences. From funk and psychedelic rock to R&B\, he captures it all. This high-paced\, genre-spanning vehicle of musical fusion flies through the decades while periodically stopping to rest for a unique trombone solo from the leading man. The groove and energy never stops in this concert from Vienne\, France!\nTrombone Shorty’s talent comes partly from his roots: he is the grandson of Jessie Hill\, the American rhythm ‘n’ blues singer and songwriter. His nickname comes from the early age at which he played trombone on the New Orleans brass bands scene. It was thus in the pioneer city of jazz that he initially trained\, then entered the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts where he learned trumpet. DESCRIPTION:Come to the launch of Robbin Farr’s poetry book\, Become Echo\, and enjoy getting together with other poetry lovers over refreshments and conversation. Robbin will read from her book and answer any questions about the poems or her publishing experience. The free launch event will be held on Sunday\, February 26 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at Freeman Hall\, 181 East Court Street Doylestown. Parking is free and plentiful. Reservations are required due to space limitations.Send your reservation request to programs@bucksarts.org. Masks are optional.

Join now\, then enter the show: /www.bucksarts.org/member-benefits/\nYou do not need to be a resident of Bucks County to be a member of the A&C and enter the R.E.D. Show. \nGeneral Information: \n\nRepresentational and non-representational work in all mediums is welcome.\nArtists may produce new works in response to the call for art or they may also submit work\npreviously created.\nSubmissions from new\, emerging\, and established artists are welcomed.
