Free to attend\, but please register to reserve your seat below. \n“Cruz\,” a documentary that tells the story of a Rarámuri family in search of justice plus a conversation with filmmaker Teresa Camou Guerrero. \nCruz\, a determined Raramuri indigenous man from Mexico\, and his community were driven from their land by a drug cartel because they refused to grow opium poppies instead of corn. They now live in exile and fear for their lives while desperately seeking justice and a safe return to their homeland. This weekend will be the first time “Cruz” has been screened in person with the filmmaker in the United States. \n“Cruz” aims to raise awareness about the consequences of illegal drug production in indigenous and peasant communities\, the loss of territory and identity\, and the lack of justice in Mexico.

The submission link will be active during that time. \nApril: 30 Days of Inspiration seeks poems and art that explore what strengthens\, connects\, revives or calms—from small\, seemingly ordinary moments to dramatic occasions\, broad landscapes\, and abstractions. A different poem matched with a different artwork will be featured on ACCBC social media each day of April\, 2023. DESCRIPTION:The Price of Silence: The Forgotten Story of NJ’s Enslaved People plus Discussion\nSaturday\, January 14\, 2023\n4:00 PM 6:00 PM\nFor more information and tickets: https://www.acmescreeningroom.org/now-playing/mlk\nNew Jersey\, the Garden State\, is known for its produce\, but not for the enslaved people who tilled the soil. In this two-part PBS documentary\, descendants and historians tell their stories and why it was the last northern state to end the institution of slavery. Part one offers an overview of the state’s history of enslaved people and shared poignant family stories of its earliest freed slaves. In episode two\, we look at the Lost Souls Project\, which is working to remember and identify African Americans who were forcibly removed from New Jersey and taken to Louisiana and explore the lasting impact of slavery in the state. The book “If These Stones Could Talk” was Ridgeley Hutchinson’s inspiration for making the film. We will be joined for a Discussion with Filmmaker Ridgeley Hutchinson along with co-authors Beverly Mills and Elaine Buck (If These Stones Could Talk).

She is a founder and co-editor of River Heron Review\, an online poetry journal\, publishing and supporting poets from across the globe. When not writing poetry or editing\, you will find Robbin volunteering for the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. Her poetry has been published in various journals\, including Panoply\, Sky Island\, Atlanta Review\, 2River View and others. Her book\, Become Echo (Atmosphere Press)\, is launching next month. Her writing has appeared in the American Poetry Review\, Colorado Review\, Kenyon Review\, New England Review\, Poetry Daily\, Verse Daily\, Volt\, and other journals. A MacDowell fellow\, she is a professor of English at Bucks County Community College\, where she directs the Bucks County Poet Laureate Program and the Wordsmiths Reading Series. \nRoy W. Smith runs a monthly poetry round table gathering at Prallsville Mills Stockton New Jersey and has been a long time organizer and MC of multiple poetry events in Bucks county and New Jersey. He believes strongly that poetry should be nurtured in a creative\, friendly space.  Roy has been published in River Heron Review\, Philadelphia stories\, Apiary\, Karla’s thirteen New Hope Poets and the Bucks County Herald and also Radius magazine as well as Phantom Billstickers cafe reader out of New Zealand among others.  \nThe honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and the Lenel Education Fund.

DESCRIPTION:Psychedelia Plus Q&A with Filmmaker and Lobby Reception\nSaturday\, November 12\, 2022\n7:00 PM\nFollowed by a Q&A with filmmaker Patrick Murphy. Pat is a documentary filmmaker and professional film editor\, whose work includes programs for PBS\, American Masters\, and People magazine. He started making “Psychedelia” in 2011\, upon learning about the NYU Psilocybin Cancer Anxiety Study. He produced\, financed\, and distributed the film completely independently. Patrick just moved to Lambertville from CA. We hope to give him a big welcome! \nPSYCHEDELIA is a documentary film about psychedelic drugs and their ability to induce mystical and religious experiences. The film chronicles their use in controlled research studies prior to the cultural upheaval of the 1960s\, when LSD was regarded as a promising medical breakthrough\, as well as their recent re-emergence in psychiatry. Featuring leading experts in the field of psychedelic research\, the film tells the story of medical professionals who have re-introduced these compounds into a legal and growing field of study. First-person accounts from a study on end-of-life anxiety explore the profound\, life-altering insights psychedelics induce in participants and what these insights might mean for society at large.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a LITERARY ARTS SALON on October 6\, 2022\, at 7 pm at Freeman Hall\, 181 East Court Street\, Doylestown\, featuring four wonderful writers: Chad Frame\, Patricia Goodrich\, Lynn Miller\, and Julie Standig. Presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. \nAll four writers will read selections from their work followed by a relaxed discussion\, Q & A session\, and light refreshments. Books will be available for sale. Seating is limited and free parking is available. Reservations are required. If weather permits\, the salon will be held on the front porch\, if not\, we will be in the parlor at Freeman Hall and will follow any covid protocols of Freeman Hall. Masks are recommended and appreciated. \nFor reservations email info@bucksarts.org. \nMEET THE ARTISTS: \nChad Frame is the author of Little Black Book (2022\, Finishing Line Press)\, Director of the Montgomery County Poet Laureate Program\, a Poet Laureate Emeritus of Montgomery County\, PA\, Poetry Editor of Ovunque Siamo\, and founder of the Caesura Poetry Festival and Retreat. His work has appeared in Rattle\, Pedestal\, Barrelhouse\, Rust+Moth\, and elsewhere\, including on iTunes from the Library of Congress\, and was sent to the moon as part of the Lunar Codex Project. \nPatricia Goodrich is a poet and visual artist. She has been featured reader at writers’ conferences in Slovenia\, Lithuania\, and Russia\, and at the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival\, USA  She has received Pennsylvania Fellowships in Poetry and Creative Nonfiction. Stone Hunting in Transylvania\, Woman With A Wandering Eye\, How the Moose Got To Be\, Verda’s House\, and Red Mud are among Goodrich’s books of poems. Her poetry has been translated into Chinese\, Finnish\, French\, Lithuanian\, Slovenian\, and Romanian. .  The River Place\, a volume in collaboration with Romanian poet Ioan Hadarig will be published August\, 2022 \nLynn Miller is Professor Emeritus of Political Science\, Temple University. He is the author of a number of books and articles on world politics. Books include Organizing Mankind and Global Order: Values and Power in International Politics. His 2010 novel is Crossing the Line. He is the co-author (with Lloyd Jensen) of Global Challenge\, (with Annette H. Emgarth) of French Philadelphia\, (with James McClelland) of City in a Park\, and (with Therese Dolan) of Salut! France Meets Philadelphia: The French Presence in Philadelphia’s History\, Culture\, and Art\, which was published by Temple University Press in November\, 2020. His memoir\, Postcards from Delphi\, is now available from the author. \nA lifetime New Yorker\, Julie Standig now writes with two amazing poetry groups\, Marie Kane’s KT and the Stalwart Poets. She has been published in Alehouse Press\, Sadie Girl Press\, After Happy Hour Review\, Schuylkill Journal Review\, US1 Poets/Del Val\, Gyroscope Review as well as online journals. Her first chapbook\, Memsahib Memoir was released by Plan B Press in 2017 and an upcoming collection\, The Forsaken Little Black Book will be released Fall 2022 by Kelsay Books. She lives in Bucks County with her husband and their springer spaniel. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Fall Salon Show - Closing Weekend - Celebrate Visual and Literary Arts
DESCRIPTION:Doors are open in Doylestown for another fantastic art exhibition and sale\, coupled with an opportunity to meet local writers and illustrators. \nJoin the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County on October 1 and 2 from noon to 4pm for the closing of the Fall Salon Member Show at Freeman Hall on East Court Street in Doylestown. Stop in to see a stunning exhibition featuring the work of over 125 regional artists – 250 paintings\, drawings\, prints\, photographs\, mixed media works\, sculptures\, handmade books\, ceramics\, jewelry\, and more. Visitors to the show continue to comment on the variety of work exhibited\, the breadth of local talent on display\, and the historic setting that invites guests to linger and enjoy the work. \nThe Fall Salon Show is also a fabulous opportunity for collectors\, all of whom are invited to see the show and support local artists by making a purchase. Framed as well as matted works are available for sale. \nIn addition\, on Sunday\, October 2 from 1 to 3 pm\, the Arts & Cultural Council will host local authors signing and selling their books\, as well as book illustrators showcasing their work. Book genres include fiction\, non-fiction\, travel-memoir\, children’s books\, and poetry. Join us and connect with these A&C member literary and visual artists: Joe Chelius\, Julie Fratrik\, Jane Mohler\, Margaret Montet\, Bernadette McBride\, Steve Nolan\, David Roth\, Bill Wunder\, Patricia Goodrich\, Julie Standig\, Bill Hemmig\, Marie Kane\, and Deborah Hoeffner.
