Space is limited and parking is free!\nFor reservations\, email: programs@bucksarts.org.                                                    \nMEET THE ARTISTS: \nCheryl Bomba became involved with photography as a special education teacher when she bought one of the first digital cameras to take portraits of her students with autism. Her interests are capturing small moments in nature\, architecture\, and sculpture and helping other photographers achieve their artistic visions through iPhonography classes.  \nJoseph Chelius was the 2000 Bucks County poet laureate\, and in 2017 was the first place winner of the inaugural Bucks County Short Story competition.  Joe’s work has appeared in Cider Press Review\, Commonweal\, Poet Lore\, Poetry East\, Rattle\, and other journals.  He has published two full-length collections of poems with WordTech Communications: The Art of Acquiescence (2014) and Crossing State Lines (2020). \nLuray Gross\, a storyteller and teaching artist as well as a poet\, is the author of four collections of poetry\, most recently Lift\, published by Ragged Sky Press.  She grew up on a dairy farm in Bucks Co. in a household rich in books and music.  Reading poetry helped her survive adolescence\, and poetry has helped keep her sane ever since.  \nSean Hanrahan (he/him/his) is a gay Philadelphia poet hailing from Dale City\, Virginia. He is the author of Hardened Eyes on the Scan\, Safer Behind Popcorn\, and Gay Cake. He has taught classes on chapbook creation and ekphrastic poetry and has hosted various poetry events\, including a bimonthly series for Moonstone. \nGun-Marie Nalsen writes\, “I am a long time weaver and fiber artist. Needle felting\, punch needle\, tapestry and rug hooking\, have been my most used media until about a year ago when I started experimenting with watercolors. To my delight I discovered that using watercolors is very similar to needle felting with wool. It has the same process of layering translucent colors\, it feels playful and spontaneous.” \nFrancisco Silva writes\, “I am a painter who works mainly in oils. My home studio is located in the small town of Frenchtown\, New Jersey\, on the Delaware River. In my artwork\, I examine different themes preferring to draw from my personal experiences and my reaction to those experiences.” \nWendy Fulton Steginsky has authored three books of poetry. She attributes her love for the art form to growing up on the shores of Bermuda where the sea’s rhythms seeped into her bones and stayed. Her book\, “Let This Be Enough” (Kelsay Books\, 2016) won Honorable Mention in Bermuda’s 2018 Literary Awards. \n\nLiterary Arts Salons are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. The honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and “The Lenel Education Fund.” \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Q&A with Trenton filmmakers Sonia Szczesna and Adam Nawrot\, along with Lambertville local Jan Kubik\, an expert on Poland’s solidarity movement\, who was interviewed for the film. Jan is a Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University. \nGodspeed\, Los Polacos! tells the story of five kayakers on the edge of adulthood who skillfully pull the strings of the Soviet system\, and find themselves on an expedition in the Americas with a six-wheeled military truck\, homemade equipment\, and little to no whitewater skills. The story follows their epic two-year journey that culminates in the record-breaking first descent of the world’s deepest canyon\, and finds the kayakers in Soviet cross-hairs after they leverage their newfound fame to fight for democracy in the Eastern Bloc. DESCRIPTION:Take in recorded performances of leading classical and Jazz artists\, ensembles\, and orchestras from around the world in the comfort of the Zlock Performing Arts Center.  \nThere is a sense that\, at the time of this 1971 concert in Paris\, Ahmad Jamal represented something of a hidden gem to French audiences. A voice over during the concert states as much\, arguing that Jamal was relatively unknown in France\, despite having become “one of the most famous jazz stars” in the United States. “Imitated by nearly all modern pianists\,” the speech continues\, his style was a more skillful synthesis than that of “Bud Powell\, Errol Garner and Milt Buckner.” Indeed\, it was in small ensemble formats that he cemented his legacy\, working for six decades as a supreme leader and sideman alongside artists like Stanley Turrentine\, Yusef Lateef and Ray Brown. 34 min. Her poems have appeared in Verse Daily\, Exit 7\, Breakwater Review and Stoneboat Literary Journal\, among others. Her chapbook Museum of Things is forthcoming from Finishing Line Press in 2023. Chang’s translation of Claude de Burine’s poetry is anthologized in Paris in Our View from l’Association des Amis de Shakespeare Company. She is Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Moravian University. \nJoseph Chelius was the 2000 Bucks County poet laureate\, and in 2017 was the first place winner of the inaugural Bucks County Short Story competition. Joe’s work has appeared in Cider Press Review\, Commonweal\, Poet Lore\, Poetry East\, Rattle\, and other journals. He has published two full-length collections of poems with WordTech Communications: The Art of Acquiescence (2014) and Crossing State Lines (2020). \nGrant Clauser is the author of five books\, most recently Muddy Dragon on the Road to Heaven (winner of the Codhill Press Poetry Award). He’s a past Poet Laureate of Montgomery County. Poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review\, Greensboro Review\, Kenyon Review\, and other journals. He works as an editor and teaches at Rosemont College. \nLynn Fanok spent her childhood in New Jersey\, and has lived in Bucks County for over twenty-five years. Her new book of poetry\, Bread and Fumes\, explores the cultural influences of her father’s Ukrainian heritage\, and the challenges of being the daughter of a Nazi labor camp survivor. Her poetry appears in Painted Bride Quarterly\, Tiny Seed Journal\, Schuylkill Valley Journal\, Red Wolf Press\, and tiny wren lit. Lynn lives with her husband in Bucks County\, Pennsylvania. \nElizabeth Luciano grew up on the Jersey Shore and earned a BA and an MFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After spending some time working as a journalist and public relations specialist\, she changed careers and became an educator. She has worked at Bucks County Community College since 2004\, teaching all levels of composition. She is also the director of the Bucks County Short Fiction contests. Her work has been published in the Boston Globe\, the Philadelphia Inquirer\, and Seventeen Magazine\, among others. \nLiterary Arts Salons are presented by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County. The Honoraria are donated in support of poetry and creative writing by Mark Wisse and The Lenel Education Fund.

Free and Open to Public \nHailing from New Orleans\, Troy Andrews – better known as Trombone Shorty – fuses the big brass band sound of his birthplace with more modern influences. From funk and psychedelic rock to R&B\, he captures it all. This high-paced\, genre-spanning vehicle of musical fusion flies through the decades while periodically stopping to rest for a unique trombone solo from the leading man. The groove and energy never stops in this concert from Vienne\, France!\nTrombone Shorty’s talent comes partly from his roots: he is the grandson of Jessie Hill\, the American rhythm ‘n’ blues singer and songwriter. His nickname comes from the early age at which he played trombone on the New Orleans brass bands scene. It was thus in the pioneer city of jazz that he initially trained\, then entered the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts where he learned trumpet. Free to attend\, but please register to reserve your seat below. \n“Cruz\,” a documentary that tells the story of a Rarámuri family in search of justice plus a conversation with filmmaker Teresa Camou Guerrero. \nCruz\, a determined Raramuri indigenous man from Mexico\, and his community were driven from their land by a drug cartel because they refused to grow opium poppies instead of corn. They now live in exile and fear for their lives while desperately seeking justice and a safe return to their homeland. This weekend will be the first time “Cruz” has been screened in person with the filmmaker in the United States. \n“Cruz” aims to raise awareness about the consequences of illegal drug production in indigenous and peasant communities\, the loss of territory and identity\, and the lack of justice in Mexico.

See their latest works\, works in progress\, and sketches for new pieces. Enjoy some light refreshments and some inspiring conversation in a historic setting. \nWe are limiting attendance to be mindful about Covid. SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Code Number Safe [Un]Safe Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to join attending artists\, the curator\, and Bucks students to celebrate the opening of the exhibition\, Code Number Safe [Un]Safe.\nThe premise of the exhibition “Code Number Safe [Un]Safe” is built around the concept of numbers and numeric systems holding values for safety and stability or on the contrary- impermanence and oppression. The cohort of artists participating in the exhibition use numbers and numeric identifiers to describe personal\, process and historical narratives through sculpture\, painting\, collage\, or visual diagrams/images that symbolize spaces for realized well-being or vessels of conflict.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Helen Rebekah Garber
DESCRIPTION:Since 2012\, Helen Rebekah Garber has incorporated her science and nursing experiences into her art. As a way to cope with the stress\, trauma and uncertainty that came with working with patients during the pandemic\, Garber transferred daily calculations onto her paintings which are on view in the exhibition\, “Code Number Safe [Un]Safe” in the Hicks Art Center Gallery. For her Artist Talk\, Helen will reveal tactics she employs in both her artist and nursing practices while striving for homeostasis- a state of equilibrium “where art and life converge\, nourish\, and reimagine one another.” Helen will be in attendance and the talk will be on Zoom also at the following link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82012541962
