SUMMARY:Art of the State 2025 at The State Museum of Pennsylvania
DESCRIPTION:Michael Frank  Amish Paradise \nIn its 58th year\, Art of the State stands as a cornerstone of Pennsylvania’s vibrant art scene. This year’s exhibition offers a captivating glimpse into the Commonwealth’s rich artistic heritage\, featuring a diverse range of works spanning painting\, photography/digital media\, craft\, sculpture\, and works on paper. \nThere were 2\,344 works submitted for consideration. Following a very challenging jury process\, 97 were chosen\, including our member Michael Frank’s piece “Amish Paradise.” \nArt of the State will be open from Sunday\, June 8th through September 14\, 2025. \nPresented by The State Museum of Pennsylvania in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation\, Art of the State will offer cash awards for selected entries in the categories of Painting\, Work on Paper\, Photography & Digital Media\, Sculpture and Craft. \nThe State Museum of PA | PHMC \n300 North Street \nHarrisburg\, PA 17120 \nMuseum Hours: \nWednesday – Saturday 9 am – 4:30 pm \nSunday 12 pm – 4:30 pm \n

SUMMARY:College Launches Search for the Next Bard of Bucks County
DESCRIPTION:The search is on for the 49th Bucks County Poet Laureate\, according to Bucks County Community College Professor Ethel Rackin\, director of the longest-running poet laureate program in Pennsylvania. \nEntrants must be Bucks County residents over age 18 who have never previously served as poet laureate\, explained Dr. Rackin\, a language and literature professor at BCCC\, which administers the program. \nEach entrant must submit an entry form with 10 original poems of any style\, form\, or length to the College’s School of Language and Literature. Entries must be submitted online by Friday\, September 19. \nThe winner receives a $500 honorarium\, a proclamation from the Bucks County Commissioners\, and a reading and reception at Bucks County Community College with 2024 Poet Laureate Lake Angela\, contest judges\, and contest runners-up. \n\n\nThere is no charge for entry. All work must be original and can be published or unpublished. All entries must be submitted online by September 19. SUMMARY:The Faculty Emeriti Arts Exhibition and Opening Reception August 28 from 4-7pm
DESCRIPTION:The School of Arts and Communication at Bucks County Community College (BCCC) is pleased to announce the opening of a special exhibition celebrating the artistic contributions of its faculty emeriti members. The exhibition will be held at the Hicks Art Center located at 275 Swamp Road in Newtown PA from August 25 to October 25\, 2025. The legacy of arts faculty who established the outstanding reputation of the Bucks County Community College School of Arts and Communication beginning in 1964 through the present will be seen\, heard and on full view throughout Hicks Art Center in the upcoming The Faculty Emeriti Arts Exhibition. Some recent and historic works have never been exhibited in public prior to this prodigious exhibition.  \nThe public is invited to attend an opening reception on August 28th from 4 – 7 in Hicks Art Center\, Room H100.  \nGallery hours Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.\, Saturdays Noon – 4 p.m. \nhis exhibition is dedicated to Marlene E. Miller who passed away on July 30\, 2025. Miller taught at Bucks from 1966 – 1998 inspiring generations of students and artists.

SUMMARY:Call for Entries: Contemporary Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Call for Entries:Contemporary Art Exhibit Thursday\, September 4\, 2025 CALL FOR ENTRIES open September 5\, 2025 through January 4\, 2026. Regional\, emerging artists are invited to submit up to three pieces for consideration. A non-refundable $15 fee is required at the time of submission. The “emerging artist” is an artist that has established a style of working and creates professional work yet does not have gallery representation. Eligible artists must reside in Pennsylvania\, New Jersey\, Delaware or Maryland. Of the accepted artists\, four will be chosen to receive monetary awards\, which include Juror’s Choice ($400)\, First Place ($300)\, Second Place ($200) and Third Place ($100). The Gallery at Delaware County Community College presents the 215/610 CONTEMPORARY Juried Exhibition February 23 through April 3\, 2026: an annual exhibition that features the work of emerging artists living and working in and around the Philadelphia region. SUMMARY:Small Oils Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Six area artists have had paintings accepted in the Philadelphia Sketch Club’s annual Small Oils Exhibition: Matt DeProspero\, Lisa Domenic\, Janine Dunn Wade\, Jas Sziegel and Gene Underwood and Michael Weinert. Kate McCammon\, a noted Philadelphia-based mixed media artist\, was the juror. \nThe Philadelphia Sketch Club on tiny\, picturesque Camac Street\, is America’s oldest art club and has been operating continuously since 1860. Thomas Eakins taught there\, and prominent artists such as N. C. Wyeth have served as president. The selected painters stand in a tradition of Bucks County artists included in Philadelphia Sketch Club shows.  Walter Baum\, Daniel Garber\, Edward Redfield\, and more recently\, Ranulph Bye and Robert Beck\, have all exhibited there. \nThe Small Oils Exhibition will run from September 7 until September 28. Admission is free when the gallery is open\, on Wednesdays\, Fridays\, Saturdays\, and Sundays\, from 1pm until  5pm\, and by appointment.
