Sea Glass

Mixed media

  • 15.5 x 20 inches, unframed, 2″ deep cradled canvas with finished sides – $1600

The palette for this piece was inspired by a print showing foaming waves on the seashore. The muted blues and greens, reinforced by the repeated round shapes, call to mind those bits of well-polished glass that wash up on beaches. The sand, the sea foam, and the darker waves are represented as well.

This piece is worked mainly in paper collage, with light accents added with acrylic paint and pure pigment markers. The papers are taken from magazine pages that call out to me as I browse for appealing swaths of color and texture. I de-acidify and buffer them before using them in a collage and seal the finished work with a UVLS polymer varnish. The sides of the canvas are finished with neutral gray acrylic paint.
