I am an abstract, experimental artist and I paint intuitively – meaning that I paint with no preconceived outcomes in mind. I grew up in Alabama, earning a BA in Studio Art and Art History at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB), and have traveled to many areas of the world. These global experiences have shaped my art on many levels, the most important influence is that of the varied forms within Japanese art and culture. I now live in Doylestown, PA, yet continue to explore global methods which challenge my aesthetic.
Earth’s Prodigy is a part of my polystyrene series – merging traditional techniques in a new way. With this piece, my focus was experimenting with ways to create heavy textures. There is a large volume of deep texture juxtaposed with areas of deliberate smoothness. The gold leaf and ribbon were applied to the smooth surface – adding reflective balance against the dark, textured areas.
