- The Tyler Park Center for the Arts will hold a dedication ceremony for the new Marcia Raff sculpture “Columns 1, 2 & 3” to be held Sunday, July 17, 6-9 p.m. Coinciding with the Tyler Park Center for the Arts (TPCA) monthly Coffee House evening, the event will feature the new sculpture unveiling as well as readings, musical performances and light refreshments.
Marcia Raff, a NYC resident, works with the mediums of cast bronze, brass, ceramics and steel. Her geometric forms and monumental sculptures resonate physically as well as emotionally and are exhibited nationally and internationally including the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art and The Royal Academy of Arts, London.
Marcia Raff’s “Columns 1, 2 & 3,” is formed by two rusty Corten steel forms. “And the third column is the negative space between them,” says Raff. Inspired by a previous clay vessel, Raff later discovered that the negative space had the same shape as the famous sculptor Brancusi’s “Endless Columns.” “Since Brancusi is one of my favorite sculptors, I am thrilled to see his “Endless Column” in my sculpture quite by chance.”
Nestled in Tyler State Park, the TPCA’s sculpture garden echoes their mission to celebrate the diversity of the arts as well as to honor the artist’s individual creativity. TPCA’s existing sculpture garden artists are: Ray Faunce, Kevin Forest, Le Corbeau, Harry Gordon, Mike Gyampo, Andrew Logan and Dana Stewart. Held the third Sunday of the month, the coffeehouse evening will be known as the Rolland Coffee House at TPCA in dedication to founder Jim Rolland and is open to the public; $5.
The Tyler Park Center for the Arts is a not for profit organization dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for individuals and families to learn, experience and share the many aspects of the Fine Arts.
