After winning rave reviews on Broadway, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST: Live in HD will screen at the County Theater. This Broadway production,is directed by and stars Brian Bedford. It’s a glorious comedy of wit and wordplay, set in the drawing rooms and summer cottages of late Victorian England. Young gentlemen Jack and Algernon pursue their idle leisure, as well as the romance of two young ladies. Matters soon become complicated as identities are mistaken and false characters are revealed. Towering over the entire satire is the formidable Lady Bracknell, here played to comic perfection by Brian Bedford, in a performance which rivals that of the legendary Dame Edith Evans.Captured LIVE with multiple high definition cameras during public performances on March 11 and 12, 2011 at the American Airlines Theatre (227 West 42ndSt.).
This high-definition event brings the best of Broadway to movie audiences, and includes the added bonus of host David Hyde Pierce taking viewers backstage for special behind-the-scenes peek! Mr. Hyde Pierce says: “This delightful production of Earnest shouldn't be missed, and for the people who can't see it on Broadway, Broadway is coming to them.” Alfred Molina and Oscar Wilde expert Michael Hackett will discuss the writer and the man in an intermission special.
