Arts and culture in Bucks county are critical to our lives and our local economy, and are a crucial part of our history and future. A group of citizens in the county have joined together to celebrate that past, highlight the present, and ensure the future.
In 1974 the Bucks County Council on the Arts became the focal point for support of the arts in the county. According to Brian H. Peterson in "The Genius Belt, The Story of the Arts in Bucks County," the BCCA sponsored exhibitions and programs, published a newsletter, and developed an archive on more than 1500 artists. In 1985, the Council was absorbed by the establishment of the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown. With that great success as a backdrop, we are working to re-establish The Arts and Cultural Council of Bucks County (ACCBC) to lead the next stage of development and to forge alliances with arts and cultural organizations in all parts of the county.
Our vision is to enrich the lives of Bucks County residents by providing services and partnerships among the artists, and the arts and cultural organizations as well as promoting the artistic heritage of the county. Our mission is to foster, preserve and strengthen the knowledge and appreciation of Bucks County's performing, visual and literary arts and its rich cultural heritage.
The specific goals of the ACCBC are:
• To create a directory of arts organizations, services and programming;
• To periodically assess the needs of practicing artists as well as arts and cultural organizations;
• To develop partnerships, networks and collaborations between arts and cultural organizations;
• To provide technical assistance to strengthen artistic and cultural organizations;
• To foster cultural and artistic tourism;
• To serve as a convenor for artistic and cultural dialogue and expressions of organizations and individuals within the county.
